2016 Postmortem

so I guess everyone who is supporting Madame Secretary is A- OK with Hillary and Wall Street snuggled up under a comforter... All of that ill-gotten, dirty money that drowns out the voices of poor & working-class Americans is no big deal, and Hillary will stand up to Wall Street after she's elected. And of course, that's like next-level genius shit because she's taking their money and then she'll rake them over the coals and put some of those crooked bastards in jail where they belong...
Yeah, I can see that happening...

I guess it's easy to not give a fuck about other people when you've already got yours. I expect that shit from the GOP. if Hillary actually gave 2 shits about the poor & working class, she'd tell the Wall Street banking elitists to take their dirty money and go fuck themselves. But her greed and/or callous disregard for the downtrodden won't allow it. And now that's she's a wholly-owned subsidiary of these bastards, we're pretty much screwed. Sure it might be worse if the GOP wins, but we're talking minute differences in the degree to which we're fucked. Can anyone seriously believe that HRC will bite the hand that has fed her campaign? That's just utterly delusional.
OTOH, if she gets elected and then actually does hold Wall Street accountable for the crimes committed against the American people, I will be the first to formally apologize on DU and any other online platform for having misjudged HRC. Hell, I'll buy a billboard in every American city of over 1,000,00 people and publicly scold myself for having doubted her good intentions when she accepted all of that dirty money. And then I'll give myself a spanking and go to bed without supper...

(47,803 posts)Will the "liberal progressive Clinton" be the one who steps into the Oval Office?
Or the Corporate Centrist Clinton, who will immediately appoint some Wall St. insider as Sec, of Treasury, some Corporate Lawyer as Attorney General, a Corporate HR Unionn Buster to Sec. of Labor, Media Barons to the FCC, Monstanto lobbyist to Dec. of Ag......etc.
I guess she'll tell us after the election.

(49,387 posts)It will be no different with Hillary. Over time, Hillary may be a disappointment to many who expected more out of her. What she does accomplish may be a pleasant surprise to many more.
I had no problem getting on board with Obama once he began his GE campaign against McCain/Palin. At no time did I believe I was backing "the better of two evils".
After Obama won the election, I had high expectations of him, based solely on his inspirational
speech presentation and his confident swagger. Seven years later, I am a firm believer in "actions speaking louder than words".

(2,064 posts)there's no shortage of "Democrats" who are only engaged in the process for personal enrichment. Certainly it's more common on the GOP side, but crony capitalism is rooted in DC and state capitals regardless of which party has control. True progressives have an uphill battle in fighting corporate power, especially when it co-opts the very party to which they belong.
Make no mistake, corporate power brokers knew Bernie wasn't for sale, so they've spread their money around on various GOP candidates as well as Madame Secretary. It's called hedging your bets. These folks may be evil, but they're not stupid.

(3,498 posts)Mr. Carson and Mrs. Clinton were tied at 44 percent apiece, according to the survey from the Democratic-leaning firm Public Policy Polling, and Mr. Carson had an 8-point, 43 percent to 35 percent advantage over Mrs. Clinton among independents.

Hillary Clinton who is often touted by her supporters as the most 'electable' Democrat and the only one capable of defeating whoever is the Republican nominee next November, does poorly against quite a few of them in a new Morning Consult poll. She trails Ben Carson 42/41, Carson has made a number of outrageous comments just recently comparing abortion to slavery. She's tied with Donald Trump at 43/43 who is widely regarded as the easiest Republican candidate to beat. Jeb Bush is tied with her at 41/41 despite his flailing campaign.

(9,214 posts)she will need their support to get re-elected. Then watch out! Of course by then most people won't be able to afford a newspaper, cable, or the internet so we won't know that she stood up to them.

(3,544 posts)All that dirty money to HRC. These are the people that stole millions from hard working people and damn near collapsed our economy. So it's pretty obvious she wont do shit to Wall street. She's also non committal to breaking up the banks. (IE: I'll consider it).
I don't understand why people cannot see this. Are we this stupid? I'm guessing yes. And all the Clintonites that posted here have nothing but ignorant remarks, like "I sleep with my dog", and "I guess new poll numbers are out". These are people that like the status quo, corrupt politics, while the country continues to go in the wrong direction towards oligarchy. Oh my, what a huuuuuuge mistake they are making.
And then there's Bernie. Need I say more?
Yurovsky
(2,064 posts)but sadly not unexpected.
True change is difficult. It can be unpleasant. People will attack you, especially those with a vested interest in the status quo.
But I'd rather stand for what is right than parade around taking a victory lap with people who are OK with continued injustice and oppression. Not sure how some people sleep at night, but I guess that's their problem.
RoccoR5955
(12,471 posts)That should be good enough for her supporters.

(4,450 posts)sure, I'll vote for her over some far more vile Republican in the general election. But I'm not spending my money or time on her. I have thought and continue to think that Hillary is all about Hillary and not much else. Again, I hope she wins the general but it truly is a lesser of two evils choice for me.
My money and time, however, are going to Russ Feingold this election cycle.

No, no don't think THAT! It's really not just all corruption re: the buying of government. It's about Americans' true political desires. What -every- voting citizen wants in politicians is people who represent them.
All that money is just free-speech working to elect the candidates that can, most pragmatically, best represent the donors' interest.
It's silly to make the Big money the enemy of the small money. Really. It's all the very same money (at least the part that isn't riyals and renmimbi). Lets just celebrate it as campaign war-chests FULL of money that will protect and serve the American Dream of creating bigger piles of more and more money.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Tue Nov 3, 2015, 10:58 AM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: It's GDP. Nothing unusual.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: It would be nice if the alerter had given a reason. I see a snarky reply to a snarky OP. Everyone, just stop it.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: While I strongly disagree with this post, its tone is similar to the tone of the OP. Leave it.
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The post criticized the content of a previous post, not the previous poster. Seems OK to me.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No alerter comments, no hide. Sure it's a bit rude, but this isn't a personal attack in any way... Which I assume is the reason the alerter alerted, but again no comments so who knows? -Agschmid
