Related: About this forumRomney Has ZERO Percent Support From African Americans In New NBC/WSJ Poll
A new NBC/WSJ poll out Tuesday shows President Barack Obama with a four-point lead over presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney. But as is often the case with polls, some of the more interesting numbers were in the details. For example? Romney snagged zero percent of African-American voters.
Among key demographics, the poll noted that Obama had a lead over Romney. The most stark being when it came to African Americans: 94 percent to 0 percent. Via NBC:
Looking inside the numbers, Obama continues to lead Romney among key parts of his political base, including African Americans (94 percent to 0 percent), Latinos (by a 2-to-1 margin), voters under 35-years-old (52 percent to 41 percent) and women (51 percent to 41 percent).
His lead among those groups isnt surprising, but hard for the number zero not to catch a persons attention.

(6,148 posts)Is that some black voters are really holding their noses, because they don't want to vote for someone who is pro-choice. Many won't be too crazy about a same-sex marriage platform either. We run quite conservative.
There are even some who don't think Obama has done enough for our communities.
It is actually sad that we are such a monolithic block of voters. We don't swing elections, and neither the Democrats nor the Republicans woo our vote. The Republicans basically ignore it, and the Democrats expect it.
I wish there was another party that we could run to and make us a voting bloc with some power.

(7,403 posts)Without the black vote Democrats would be shut out in the Electorial College. Does anybody believe the Democrats could win Pennsylvania, Illinois, Michigan, etc. without the black vote. And would Nancy Pelosi would never have been Speaker without the Black Caucus.
That said, black Democrats should have more clout than at present and I don't know the answer for bringing that about. A 3rd party would dimish black power so that is not the answer either but picking up your marbles and leaving just means you can't get back in the game of marbles. Sometimes the grass really isn't greener on the other side.

(7,403 posts)But I can't for the life of me figure out how Obama's lead is only 4% given those other numbers. It would require that males overall are about 55-40 for Romney and white males over 35 by about 70-25 for Romney. It that is the case the dog whistle politics is working extremely well with that group.

(24,411 posts)I remember in the movie Game Changer, when John McCain's people read the latest poll results and discover that McCain is behind 10 percent with women. In the movie, their faces were ashen, and they new this was dire and something had to be done, or the election was over for them.
That is why Palin was picked. They were desperate and they had no choice but ti throw a Hail Mary.
That's how dire and serious it is to be behind 10 percent with women.

(57,936 posts)-- Romney has zilch support. People really don't like him and have not forgotten that Republicans caused the ruin of our country and that Bush took office although Gore won the popular vote.
I was shocked to hear that from people who are not educated or politically active and just ordinary hardworking people. I was amazed.
Of course that may just be my area.

Major Hogwash
(17,656 posts)Donald Trump led the charge this year making that claim so many times that I lost count.
As millions of Americans were losing their jobs, and losing their homes, all the Republican party did was call President Obama names and show disrespect to him just because he was the President.
It started at that first joint speech to Congress that President Obama gave when that Republican House member shouted out "You lie" right in the middle of President Obama's speech.
While all of those Americans were losing their jobs, I don't why the Republicans thought that all of those people who had lost their jobs were just Democrats.
Or why they thought they were all white.
Those Americans needed help, not just more partisan bickering and name calling.
So, why the Republican party decided to try and capitalize on their pain by calling President Obama names and questioning his birth certificate, is beyond me.
Why they were as racist as they were and so "loud and proud" about it, I have no idea.
I have never seen anything like it in my life.
The last time they were this noisy about hating black people was back in the early 60s.
But, that nonsense just isn't going to work anymore.
There is no way that I will ever vote for a Republican now.
No way in hell.
Not for any office whatsoever, not even for local dog catcher.

(290 posts)The GOP has deteriorated so much over the years. I feel for the 'old school' Republican congressmen & senators who for the most part used to be able to work freely with the Democrats. Now, if they do that, their own Party tries to oust them out! They are being ousted by Tea Party believers who obviously have the belief that their way is the only way. There was a day when you were always respectful of your elders, teachers, and definitely, for the President of the United States.
This do-nothing Congress has spent their entire time making it their first priority to oust President Obama. Not to help Americans, (Republicans, Democrats, Independents) of any race, gender, etc.
It's ridiculous to see the likes of Donald Trump out their stomping their feet and pounding the table over such stupid things. He is more worried about President Obama's birthplace than he is about the middle class and poor.
I only hope the number of people VOTE (like the polls indicate) and realize their vote IS important. If they don't they are fulfilling the Tea Party's Dream or the 1% who are trying to buy the election

(20,450 posts)Think I'm going to pick it up because I really don't understand why some poor, middle- and working-class continue to vote against their best interests. Yes, I understand that the Republicans have perfected the Southern Strategy--getting whites to believe that black and brown people are taking something away from them, or that somehow they're going to be rich. I just don't understand why they can't look around and see what's really happening to the middle class in general. I just don't get it.
Liberal_Stalwart71
(20,450 posts)Americans as I go door to door that I'm not 100% confident. There are some religious blacks who are angry at Obama for his gay marriage stance. While they may not vote for Romney, they'll stay home. Then, there's the apathy: "Why vote? My vote won't count!" or "What's Obama done for me? He hasn't done anything!" Yes, believe it or not, there are those who agree with the Cornel Wests and the Tavis Smileys of the world.
Still, Obama should enjoy 90% of the black vote, just like other Democratic presidential candidates. Last time, he got between 95%-97%. He may lose some support for the very reasons that I suggest.
