2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumRemember Steve Elmendorf's famous words about bloggers?
Segami's post here reminded me of Steve's rather blunt assessment of bloggers a few years ago.
He was an advisor to Hillary in 2008 and now is a lobbyist for Time Warner.
His famous/infamous words about bloggers:
Prescient 2006 column: Blogs Attack From Left as Democrats Reach for Center
"The bloggers and online donors represent an important resource for the party, but they are not representative of the majority you need to win elections," said Steve Elmendorf, a Democratic lobbyist who advised Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign. "The trick will be to harness their energy and their money without looking like you are a captive of the activist left."
Yep, there you go. We are a convenience to the party until we aren't.

(112 posts)We need to dump our winner takes all voting system and adopt better ones that give third parties a chance. Until that happens, we will simply continue to be marginalized and used in the fashion described in the parent post.

(7,624 posts)I think the best option is to put time, energy, and available money into strengthening and reforming the Democratic Party. If enough people get involved, the Democrats don't have to be the me-too money party.

Thanks for tipping me off on that other thread, I had missed it and the article referenced article in it is spot on.
