http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/16/mitt-romney-tax-rate_n_1790411.htmlUPDATE: 1:20 p.m. -- Obama for America spokeswoman Lis Smith released the following statement on Mitt Romneys claim that he never paid less than 13 percent in taxes at any point over the past decade:
Mitt Romney today said that he did indeed go back and look at his tax returns and that he never paid less than 13% in taxes in any year over the past decade. Since there is substantial reason to doubt his claims, we have a simple message for him: prove it. Even though hes invested millions in foreign tax havens, offshore shell corporations, and a Swiss bank account, hes still asking the American people to trust him. However, given Mitt Romney's secrecy about his returns, coupled with the revelations in just the one return we have seen to date and the inconsistencies between this one return and his other financial disclosures, he has forfeited the right to have us take him just at his word.
UPDATE: 2:50 p.m. -- Reid spokesman Adam Jentleson emailed over the following response to Romney's claim.
We'll believe it when we see it. Until Mitt Romney releases his tax returns, Americans will continue to wonder what he's hiding. Romney seems to think he plays by a different set of rules than every other presidential candidate for the last thirty years, all of whom lived up to the standard of transparency set by Mitt Romney's father and released their tax returns.

(1,730 posts)breaker for millions of American's who don't lie, and who are incapable of rationalizing lying. This tax issue is a direct reflection on Bishop Romney's belief that lying is okay in many circumstances.
It's all very unsettling, and I'm sure church-goers nationwide will give pause before casting their vote for someone whose moral compass cannot find true direction.

Can you imagine the reaction of Bishop Romney's supporters, and in fact Bishop Romney himself, if another major party nominated a Wiccan for president?

(5,060 posts)The fundamental Mormon belief that their religion brought about in these latter days on the American continent represents the one and only true path to God. They believe all other religions are false, therefore inferior, and contemptible to church members and church officials.
Why else would Mormons continue to baptize the dead of other faiths against the direct expressed desires of those faith's leaders? They don't care about those wishes because they alone are doing God's work on earth.
Mormons are taught from an early age to be "in the world but not of the world." They believe there is one set of rules for church members and another set of rules for the unbaptized.
Lying is a necessary skill for Mormons and the survival of the LDS church in this evil world.

Reid really does know something, doesn't he? I mean, he knows more than just "somebody told me Romney paid no taxes," right? I am starting to believe he has documentation of tax fraud or something equally damning on Romney.

Politifact is a joke. It's a punchline. Nice try.
