It might even be true that most of his supporters are women. Yes, he gets a higher percentage of men than women, but there are more women who vote in Democratic primaries. Not sure about that one, though.

The whole thing was nasty. Making fun of people for being interested in politics and getting involved with a campaign.

Clearly part of the strategy for how to clobber Sanders is simply to make it seem uncool to campaign for him.

The Berniebro article is not serious or legitimate journalism. Why garbage like that would be featured in a "respected" magazine is beyond me.

As for maleness, it's not a realistic picture. It's what they wish were true so they could make fun of it. They would like to be able to claim the Bernie wave is overwhelmingly male, as a way of discrediting the movement. They want to paint it into a corner and describe it as very narrow and not representative of America. Similar to how they painted it into a corner based on race.

The creators of Bernie-Bro understand something: They aren't reporting reality, they are helping create reality. Similar to how some people repeated over and over again that Bernie (or his fans) have a problem with black people. For some people their goal never was to just report trends, their goal was to make damn sure it stayed that way, by making the racial situation very awkward.

Not everybody, I understand many good people were sincerely discussing race issues. But many other people exploited the racial awkwardness as a campaign tool and poured salt in the wound purely for reasons of short-term political advantage.

And now it seems some ratfucker is trying to create a caricature of Sanders supporters as "male, very male". They want to create a gender awkwardness that will make women think twice before forwarding a Bernie email, or anything like that. They're letting us know what the election is really about: Girls against Boys, which side are you on? They are really dumbing it all the way down to that. It's back to the playground. Back to elementary school. Boys have cooties. Bare identity politics at its absolute worst. I'm guessing the goal is not as much to shame males, but to creep out females.

I certainly respect the importance of gender and gender issues, just like race issues. And we should talk about those things a lot. But some people do also maliciously exploit identity for immediate political advantage and that's pretty dumb.

I made a couple edits mostly to emphasize respect for gender and race issues.

Thanks for zooming in on Bernie-Bro with your thought provoking prompt.

I'll skip making an OP for now. It's pretty late.

can be accused of misogyny for not supporting Clinton. It is harder to accuse Bernie's supporters of misogyny if they are women.

BTW, I am a female Bernie supporter. No bro here.

it's the endgame of "identitarianism" (itself a controversial notion), but in some circles basically men are all considered potential rapists because they have a dongle (it's why Qantas has men reshuffled if they sit next to a child)

any denial is just dismissed as risible "not all men" stuff--and is in fact taken as the clinching proof there's "a problem"

therefore all men want to be bros and bodybuilders because of "gender attitudes" and any male suicides and lagging school performance HAVE to be because they felt like they're not caught up with "society's masculine ideal," viz. the supposed meathead ideal (poverty and race are mere distractions, and bringing them up is only further proof that you're Part of the Problem and Just Don't Get it)
