Hands down the winner of last night debate was

#BlackLivesMatter.

To be elevated to the national stage by a major party says yes there is a problem and we need to fix it.

In the past here there have been not so nice comments about #BlackLivesMatter and also a conspiracy theory that Hillary Clinton was behind the groups "shenanigans".

I hope that people involved in that has finally done some soul searching & saw the error of their ways and will come to the Democratic table to ensure that this issue is not swept under the rug.

Bernie Sanders along with Hillary Clinton & O'Malley are onboard. You should be too.

Hopefully now this will put to rest the crap that was slung at #BlackLivesMatter.

Thanks all.

BLM will not let it go to the back burner. They literally have pushed the Dem candidates to take them seriously. And yes, to have it brought up last night was great.

She bravely held her ground as the crowd yelled "taze her" and "we have taken care of racism." It was an eye opener for many who had yet to understand the severity of the problem, and a moment of reflection and self-assessment for those of us who are well aware. I hope people today see what her activism and bravery helped to produce. She hasn't been treated kindly, including being called a racist over and over again right here on du. The whole movement has been beautiful to watch.

"Black Lives Matter Gets Lackluster Question In Democratic Debate

For weeks leading up to the first Democratic presidential debate in Las Vegas on Tuesday, Black Lives Matter activists wondered if the candidates would be asked about racism and structural inequality — and about their movement to dismantle both.

The question they got, posed by CNN anchor Don Lemon, was something less than they had hoped for after getting face-time with all the major Democratic candidates: “Do black lives matter, or do all lives matter?”

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders replied first, affirming the movement’s slogan.

“And the reason those words matter is the African American community knows that, on any given day, some innocent person like Sandra Bland can get into a car, and then three days later she’s going to end up dead in jail, or their kids are going to get shot,” Sanders said. “We need to combat institutional racism from top to bottom, and we need major, major reforms in a broken criminal justice system in which we have more people in jail than China.”

Many Black Lives Matter activists, including Campaign Zero activist DeRay Mckesson, said Sanders’ answer was strong, although some activists voiced displeasure with the amount of time the candidates were given to articulate their points on racial inequality."

To me, any National airtime is a good thing.

How much time did the Republicans give to BLM?

The conversation has to start somewhere and needs to continue. If not, it will whither on the tree & disappear.

Thanks for your great post William769. Black Lives Matter is an important movement and should be kept in the forefront.

For far too long black people have been indiscriminately shot down in the streets. For far too long the criminal justice system has kowtowed to a private prison industry that makes money imprisoning people for nonviolent crimes. For far too long black youth unemployment is at Great Depression levels. We need significant reform!

I'm encouraged that three democratic candidates for President appear serious about addressing these problems. This must continue at every level. Locally, statewide and nationwide. We can and will do much better. We will all benefit when we put our thoughts and deeds and consciousness to this important issue. Black Lives Matter.

as well as so-called progressives who railed against BLM at the rallies (yelling "taze them", etc.) feel like chumps now and have egg on their faces. The BLM movement is now being taken seriously by a major political party and has been gaining traction, just as it intended. People who have paid attention and are intellectually honest know that the movement is about highlighting the ongoing neglect towards Black lives, and that it's not saying that non-Black lives don't matter.
