Edited to add: The right has created the base they want through fox news, the GOP and talk radio and creating or stirring grievances. Now their politicians pander to the needs of that base. Democrats are still thinking for themselves and so the leaders talk about aspirations, not grievances. The GOP first creates the 'needs' of the base then gets politicians to pander to it. The Democrats inspire their base.
