2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSOCIALISM is better for small business. For example:
I started and ran a bicycle shop many years ago, built it up to about 10 employees over 10 years. My first hire was, like me, a disabled Vet with free health care through the VA; so for the first year or so, I had no worries about buying an expensive group plan - I was able to put my money into growing the business.
As we grew and new people came onboard, I found myself looking for young people on their parents' insurance, or seniors on Medicare. I wanted to have everybody covered, but could not afford (even back then) a medical insurance hit to my delicate cash flow. And I remember thinking: "If every new hire were covered by a universal health care plan, a business owner or entrepreneur wouldn't have to be in the health insurance business."
An even more bold step would have been for a business like mine to have the support and incentives from a Socialist government to establish a worker-directed cooperative arrangement: a happier situation for any startup whose mission is to provide goods and services to a community rather than to exploit workers in order to "get rich."
