2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumTulsi Gabbard was in fact "DIS-invited" from Democratic Vegas Debate by DWS
For those who may have missed this, here it is. The short version, from youtube,
plus a link to the entire interview below, which is well worth watching, with
Chris Hayes last night.
This segment from Chris Hayes is over 6 minutes long, the part about Gabbard being disinvited
starts about 2 minutes into the clip, and she goes on for over 4 minutes, really spilling the beans
on how utterly petty & vindictive DWS is being about the whole debate debacle. It's really worth
watching. I think she should be DNC Chair.

(22,879 posts)smoke is coming out my ears...What the hell is that all about.. In 2008 we had 9 debates already on the Democratic side.. if DWS is shilling for HRC it will do nothing but hurt her in the long run.. HRC is as good as it gets when it comes to debates.. she can take the heat..

(45,251 posts)Aside from that, writing to him will do no good either. It's not as though he knows less about what is going one than DU does.
I think all our elected officials in D.C. could care less what we think. If I ever had any doubt, the public option bit ended it. 350 million people, give or take, in the US. Let's say 100 million of them are adults. How may would have to contact the President in order for it to make a dent?
I think we need to stop kidding ourselves that contacting them moves the needle and find other ways to get their attention. Unfortunately, even ending donations does not much matter as ordinary citizens are not their main source of revenues anymore. They want us donating so that we feel invested, but that's about it--except for Bernie, who really needs our $2700 or whatever we can give.

(10,279 posts)if he wishes. The problem is that Debbie wants the job as a stepping stone in her political career, and she is playing hardball to keep it. She can redeem herself if HRC is elected President after being responsible for mismanaging support for DEMs in 2012 and 2014. Pres. Obama and V.P. Biden don't want to deal with the shit storm that she would cause if she were replaced. So, Pres. Obama is "satisfied" with her performance. My opinion is that no amount of letters to the President or Chair of NDC will cause any change. Debbie is in control and she has an agenda. Anyone getting in her way will be roadkill.

Whatever lies work for them I guess.
99th_Monkey
(19,326 posts)then OMFG!! There Gabbard was - right in front of my eyes - completely destroying
that "disgruntled, dissing her boss" meme. It was like a huge breath of fresh air filled
my psyche with oxygen of truth, honesty and a love for democracy.
Gabbard's commentary on this, later in Hayes' extended 4-minute interview, is truly
moving & inspirational. I love this woman, and want her as DNC Chair.
BTW - did you hear? Bernie called Rep. Gabbard immediately as this was breaking,
and said "hey No problem, we have an admission ticket reserved for you", and I
think Gabbard is taking him up on it.

(13,110 posts)Her speech, tone, pitch, and pronunciation is pleasing to the ears.
She showed she was interested in truth, not mudslinging.
Her demeanor showed integrity.
The DNC and Debbie Wasserman Schultz should be ashamed
and embarrassed.
I am positive they are neither.

As you say, a very impressive speaker she is.

(58,785 posts)manufacturing this unseemly situation to push herself in front of a national media focused on the debate. She could have "quarreled" and run to the cameras any time in the past few months, but she chose the day before the first debate. I am absolutely sure that she would have called for cancelling all debates if THAT would have worked better.
We should recognize people to admire -- or reject! -- by their behavior, not by how they look in front of TV cameras. Isn't it supposed to be the Republicans who are so foolish and irresponsible as to elevate Sarah Palins and Carly Fiorinas to star status?
We're the Democrats. The smart ones. Right?

(58,785 posts)all she did was set herself up as the enemy of someone many here dislike and all of a sudden a whole group of them fell in her lap. Like shooting fish in a barrel.
Since you question everything, you might want to count up a few of the people and groups who are really vociferously disliked here and question how often over the next year contrived attacks on them may be used to lead hostile DUers around by the nose. And most important of all: To what purpose? WHAT is the hostile ones' support going to empower?
questionseverything
(9,661 posts)i know who i am and i believe in the first amendment...no word salad is going to change that
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)Her behavior in this instance is not honorable. Did you question if this was the first time?
Notably, Gabbard gave up all of her power but her actual vote to influence the decisions of the DNC when she broke with and antagonized all her fellow committee members in public. What does she intend to get in return for undermining the Democratic Party while it's battling the GOP for the future of America, QuestionsEverything?
You have, of course, found out that she is running for reelection this year, having decided not to go after Senator Schatz's seat this time around. And that she's not all that popular with the left in Hawaii? Among other things, although ex-military herself, she was one of two Democrats who voted with House Republicans to condemn President Obama for bringing Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl home? That move to the right was back when she was believed to be angling for Senator Schatz's seat and needed to appeal to the right wing.

(9,661 posts)the people undermining the democratic party are the ones keeping them from debating
she is still in the military, she received a promotion yesterday

I was looking for a picture of a GOP potential presidential lineup just the other day, don't remember the search terms, but darned if Gabbard wasn't in some of them. Huh? I can't say, in an era of Carsons and Fiorinas, that I admire her for managing to worm her name in.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Okay, I get why people, especially Supporters of Senator Sanders, are not happy with her. Her actions do warrent scrutiny, and does deserve to be addressed. However, "Spoiled High school school girl"???
No matter what your politics are, misogynistic comments should NEVER be an acceptable form of attack on any site that would call itself liberal or progressive.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Tue Oct 13, 2015, 03:14 PM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Cookies are crunchy
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: When it is okay to refer to Sanders as a cranky and cantankerous man, which is certainly ageist, then there is nothing misogynistic about spoiled high school school girl.
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: What's misogynistic there? The use of "girl"? She *IS* acting like a spoiled HS student. There's no need to refer to "generic HS student that could be a boy or a girl" if the person you're talking about is female.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Not a very intelligent post describing the nature of Facebook but not hideable, IMO.
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(57,936 posts)She is not the chair of the entire Democratic Party.
She is the chair of one wing of the Democratic Party, and it is clearly not ethical for her to continue in her position.
She should in-so-far as the Party is concerned be tolerant of all views and partial to no candidate or specific vision of the Party's future.
This is unacceptable.
Debbie Wasserman Schultz should explain and apologize.
