Should we play dirty, and turn one of the GOP's dirty ploys back around on them?

You're right. I was so overwhelmed with the excitement of twisting up the teapers I overlooked that little detail. It's STILL a good question, though!

Good grief people.

(34,109 posts)is the chronicle of a family and some others from Jerusalem to the Americas as led by God and the visitation of Jesus to America (the promised land) and it moves on from there. It is an ADDITION to the bible, the King James edition. There are 3 books in addition to the bible. It is called The Book Of Mormon: Another Testimony of Jesus Christ. It is used as an additional witness but does in no way reduce the importance of the bible.

(3,585 posts)and only useful for when it agrees with Mormonism.
That is why they use it as merely one of the books, it has it's uses, especially for appearances.
As Momons say "LDS church founder Joseph Smith said, "I believe the Bible as it read when it came from the pen of the original writers." This is, however, not believed by Mormons to be the text of the Bible that is had right now."

(34,109 posts)you should probably really educate yourself. There are many groups of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
I was a Mormon for years. NEVER did I ever hear or see anything that has been discussed in the thread. Never in all the National meetings did I ever hear anything like this. Never did I ever read anything like that coming from the prophet. To think that Romney would be sworn in on the Book of Mormon is absurd and these kinds of threads are not helpful and quite frankly make us look really really stupid.
SOME Mormons may say what you quote but there was never anything like that in any ward I ever attended. Ever.
Remember, you can find all kinds of odd things about every religion, political party etc. There is much that a person can find to make fun of the Mormons without resorting to making shit up. I can't believe I see this kind of crap on DU these days.

(3,585 posts)It wouldn't be prudent of him.
Romney sought a meeting with his Holy Prophet to seek permission to run for President, and it was granted. Mitt won't do anything which will damage his place in Mormonism.

OK I'll edit that out
I don't think it is a "lie" but I do think it is playing on bigotry.
MuseRider
(34,109 posts)I don't think they need a lot of convincing but to tell lies about a large group of people, some of the nicest people I have ever known aside from their church's reprehensible political involvement*, is simply playing the game the other side is berated for. Do we really want to become like them?
Politics is dirty, we all know that, but to lie and make shit up is never going to get you anywhere. When you finally run into someone smart from the other side who asks you to back up what you say what are you going to do? If you can't prove it it is really stupid to use it.
It seems that there is a trend that if they do it then it is OK if we do it. I have been seeing that for a long time now. How's that working? Not terribly well as far as I can see. It does matter how you play the game. In the long run it does.
*many of the Mormons that I knew who were not born into the faith have left because of what the church has done politically.

Oddly, Mitt's Religion is off limits, probably because the evangelicals would prefer to pretend to not know anything about it that might force them to not vote for him based on the possibility of spending eternity in Hell for voting for a member of a cult.
They think the less they know, the less likely God can send them to Hell for voting for him.
