Darcy Burner's Second Act

In his notes for his unfinished novel, “The Last Tycoon,” F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote, “There are no second acts in American life.” Progressive House candidate Darcy Burner is out to prove him wrong – again.

Darcy worked for twelve years in tech, including five years at Microsoft. That was her first act.

Then she ran for the House in Washington State against an incumbent Republican and, sadly, lost. That was her second act.

Then things got really interesting. Instead of licking her wounds and returning to her tech career, Darcy became Executive Director of the Progressive Congress Action Fund, a non-profit organization associated with the House Progressive Caucus. She also joined the Afghanistan Study Group, and worked to end that war. That was Darcy’s third act. And in that, she reminds me of Governor Howard Dean, who shook off his defeat in the 2004 Presidential race, and as Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, led the Democrats to victory in 2006 and 2008.

And now Darcy is running again for the House, in an open seat in Washington. That is her fourth act.

Darcy Burner is someone who could have spent the past four years tending to her garden, taking care of herself, doing what’s good for her. Instead, she spent that time tending to our garden, the United States of America. I respect that. That means that we can count on Darcy to stick to her principles – our principles – when she serves in the House.

The latest poll shows one point between Darcy and her key rival. Her primary election is tomorrow. Please help my friend, Darcy Burner.

Courage,

Alan Grayson

Darcy intrigues me. Congress needs some fresh new perspectives, and I like her progressive agenda.

I voted for her in this primary, and hope to vote for her come November.
