2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forum"The President" -- as said at the Obama/Kaine/DNC office
Following up on my first day on the campaign (Saturday)

My wife went to the Tim Kaine (also Obama and the Va. DNC office) and noticed that in all the coversations around the office as she would say "Obama" they would, not in a correcting manner, say "The President".
A small little item that instills in the office culture a point that is carried out when on the phones or at someone's doorstep - he IS The President and that carries weight. It also will probably get the eyes bugging out of the opposition.
"The President" use it.

(1,024 posts)it irks me when I hear news, even "non-Fox" news, say "Mr. Obama"...he is not "Mr.", he is "President Obama".
I think this is a key element, to call him the "President", or "President Obama".

(11,366 posts)Sorry, in this case Fox is not being obtuse. On first reference, it should be "President Barack Obama and then simply use the last name of the president on second reference. That they're still using "Mr." in front of it is a form of respect that is sometimes made by news outlets to reflect local style.

(19,458 posts)but I always use President Obama or The President when I'm commenting around the internet, etc. I feel rude when I say or write just "Obama," he's not a pop singer he's the President.
