HuffPo: Here's How Hillary 2016 Stacks Up Against Hillary 2008

HuffPo: Here's How Hillary 2016 Stacks Up Against Hillary 2008

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is taking a noticeably more progressive tone on a number of issues than she used to -- especially as she works to overcome a challenge from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), a self-described democratic socialist. But Clinton's domestic policy positions, which differ in many respects from those she held when she first sought the nomination in 2008, also reflect that many more Democrats now identify as liberal on both social and economic issues.

Clinton, for instance, decided last week to finally say she opposes construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, after saying for months that it would be inappropriate for her to comment on the pipeline since she was secretary of state when it was being considered. And she said last month that she would support legislation to ban so-called “golden parachutes” for private sector employees taking federal government jobs.

On a number of issues, of course, Clinton remains more moderate than many progressives would like. She still hasn't said, for example, whether she supports or opposes the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a major international trade deal that she pushed as secretary of state.

See the article for a more complete comparison of positions.

I suspect this will be another rorschach test. Either you will see Mrs. Clinton as being dishonest and saying whatever she thinks she needs to say to be elected, or you will see her as becoming more progressive as the rest of the country has become more progressive.

I honestly don't care what the reason is, I'm glad she's moving her position on these issues.

To secure the nomination and will then revert to her true beliefs.

I prefer Sanders, who has said what he believed for almost 40 years, popular or not. Authentic, with the courage of his convictions.

than there is no going back for Hillary.

Potentially, she could be, if elected, a more liberal President than Obama but not because of what she personally believes but because that's where the country is.

Progressive? Even Hillary disagrees with that characterization.

Trying to keep a score card on 2008 Hillary v. 2015 Hillary may be beyond me.

There will be no more flip jokes about her private email server. There will be no rope lines to wall off crowds, which added to an impression of aloofness. And there will be new efforts to bring spontaneity to a candidacy that sometimes seems wooden and overly cautious.

I feel that I have questions to answer, which I intend to do at every turn, with you and others about the whole e-mail issue, and to keep saying the same thing.

I'm talking about the same things. I will continue to talk about the same things.

Marriage equality
2007-2008: Clinton supported equal benefits and civil unions for same-sex couples, but did not support same-sex marriage. Then again, none of her rivals for the Democratic nomination supported same-sex marriage, either, and less than half of Americans did. In a questionnaire she filled out for the Human Rights Campaign, Clinton said she supported repealing the provision of the Defense of Marriage Act that prevented the federal government from providing benefits to same-sex couples in states that recognized their marriages. But she advocated a state-by-state approach to the issue, “letting states maintain their jurisdiction over marriage.”

Then she'll do what she wants, claiming it's all just too complicated for us to possibly understand.

Hillary trying to explain to us if Bush kept us safe or not...

"I think it's a complicated question because of course 911 happened. I was a senator from New York. And I was basically consumed by my responsibility in my state and in the city. So it did happen. And then I do give President Bush credit for trying to bring the country together around the threats that we did face. I have said the war in Iraq was a mistake. I supported what happened in Afghanistan. So if you sort it all out, its a mixed picture".

not really buying it as like a real thing but rather marketing that not only will not stick but actively undermined plus she isn't even talking that liberal anyway.
