Shame on you, CBS News/Pelley/Schieffer. What we just saw disgusted us.

They show all of this negative economic news - then weave in how it is a world problem. And they discount the stock market rise - "not rational" (well, strictly speaking, it isn't)...but - then they show a graph of unemployment vs consumer confidence - and draw a parallel then between consumer confidence and Obama's favorability rating - then state that no president has been reelected with the current number. Then they bring on Schieffer who says that Obama would rather have the Romney - type verbal gaffes than the bad economic news.

So it is like a perfect circle - media slants things to drive the low consumer confidence - then implies that it is all Obama's fault - even though they just said it is a world problem.

And that, folks, is how the right wing noise machine is trying to drive the upcoming election. And they know that most of the people who park themselves in front of the tube will believe whatever they say.

Funny story on those lines. When Poppy Bush was running for office in 1988, I was working at AMD, which was owned by a close buddy of Poppy. Everyone knew that they were planning layoffs--but they didn't announce them until AFTER the election. He didn't want to create any bad news that would affect his buddy.

Tax policy matters. I think the federal government should tax the idle money that corporations are sitting on. It shouldn't be the states, because that would hurt some states against others. The more money the company is sitting on, the higher the percentage they should pay--unless they spend some of that money to create jobs and invest in the future.

I actually think it's too late for America, but for whatever it is worth, I started a petition at the White House at http://wh.gov/OBF3 to overturn Citizens United. Actually, it's an indirect approach that would specify human rights are above corporate rights, and then the Supreme Court would have to do it.

Too bad what Rmoney really believes is "Vote for me so that government of the corporations, by the lawyers, for the richest 0.1% of Americans, shall rule the earth."

The better story is why.

Some "possible" reasons: It was always seen as Bush's deep recession, Obama has remained personally popular with most voters (while Romney is not) and they agree with him by a wide margin what to do next on taxes.

He can tie more crap together, twist it into something favorable to them/unfavorable to us, then somehow come out with the blame sounding fairly logical unless you know the truth.

I've often wondered how our country would be if we'd never had Bush/Cheney and Rove.

more civilized and higher living standards for the vast majority. They pushed the United States to the precipice of third world status. The Bush cartel did everything possible to take money out of circulation and hand it to the wealthy elites who sent it to tax havens like the cayman Islands. very unAmerican by any standard.

the people who watch the news are more than likely GOP voters so I guess they would just cater to their demographic.

Shieffer is just a grumpy old man yakking to a bunch of grumpy old republicans.

5.7 million watch CBS, 2.3 million watch fox news...

That means 300 million people don't care to watch this crap...

I'm so sick of people in our party sticking their heads in the sand. We have real economic problems in this country. A rising stock market rally will not solve these problems.

If our leaders had faced up to these issues in 2009 rather than running away from them (and embracing austerity) we would be in a much better place today.

Unless it can be made Obama's fault either way.

Gas/oil goes up, Obama's fault.
Gas/oil goes down, it reflects the bad Obama economy.

Stocks go up, previous story is about Republicans not moving on Obama's initiatives.
Stocks go down, next story has Obama's initiatives moving, again.

It's not rocket science, it's all about being invited to the right parties.
