Who here thinks Bill Krystol's demand for tighter gun control is an attempt to bait Obama

and democrats into targeting guns/assault rifles, which will alienate the poor white male base of the GOP from the Democrats even more. Some of them may be in danger of voting their own economic self interest unless they can be properly stirred into a frenzy of fear by the NRA. Obama doesn't look like he is about to bite this election season.

that that statement was an attempted rope-a-dope. No way he risks the 'insult' to his base for no purpose.

I hope that they don't take the bait. I'm pretty sure the Obama campaign won't. I hope the Dems downstream don't either.

The righties are scratching for traction. This was another stab at getting some.

Stay on message. Mourn the dead, then go back to work on the issues important to the campaign.

he should call on Republicans in congress to initiate legislation, not the Pres or the Dems.

When he does that, I'll believe he's sincere. For now, all I hear is, "Come into my parlor said the spider to the fly."

This is a lame attempt to get Pres Obama to call for something Kraptol's party will get a lot of press and support countering.

I see some in the media, such as Piers Morgan are promoting stricter laws.
My question is can they move public opinion so that something can be done.

First Stephen Baldwin came out in favor of tighter gun control. I thought - wow, cool.
Then Murdoch made the statement, and I thought - hmmmmm.
Now Bill Kristol? Whose next? Rush Limpballs??

and while I can see why most are cynical about his comments, I think in some ways he's still the product of the northeastern republican establishment. In that regard, a bit similar to Michael Bloomberg or maybe the late William Safire (reason I mention his name is I remember an op-ed before the '00 election where he said he agreed more with Gore on gun control), or even Mitt Romney when he was governor (who supported the AWB before he opposed it, like almost everything).

It doesn't matter of course. Kristol is indeed a snake and there's no reason to pay attention to any of his pontificating, unless there's a republican in the WH, at which point he'll have the president's ear. He certainly did during the Bush years. His primary goal is interventionist neo-conservatism (which really in the case of most Likudniks like himself comes down to Israel). I think domestic issues are a side show for him and his agenda.

I have been saying in here for YEARS, that gun control is the kiss of death to our party in the vast majority of the nation.

It is no accident that most of the movers and shakers of the Gun Control movement since the 1990's have been Republicans, since they stand to gain the most by having us, take politically suicidal positions. But hey, you don't need to take it from me, go to their website...

http://www.bradycampaign.org/about/bio/

Sara Brady of the Brady Campaign

For the next ten years, she worked actively in various capacities within the Republican Party. She served as Assistant to the Campaign Director at the National Republican Congressional Committee from 1968 to 1970. In 1970, Sarah joined the staff of U.S. Representative Mike McKevitt (R-CO) as an Administrative Aide. She held the same position in Congressman Joseph J. Maraziti's office (R-NJ) from 1972-1974. During the next four years, Mrs. Brady was Director of Administration and Coordinator of Field Services for the Republican National Committee.

Paul Helmke, former Pres of the Brady Bunch..

Helmke was President of the United States Conference of Mayors in 1997-1998 and was a Board member for the National League of Cities. He is a past-President of the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns and of both the national and Indiana Republican Mayors and Local Officials organizations. Helmke was the Republican nominee for the United States Senate in Indiana in 1998.

Helmke served on the U.S. Departments of Justice and Health and Human Services - Violence Against Women Advisory Council and on the U.S. Departments of Labor and Education's Advisory Council for School-to-Work Opportunities and worked for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) on special projects.

After upsetting a two-term incumbent in November 1987 with 52 percent of the vote, Helmke was re-elected mayor in 1991 and 1995. Helmke is only the second person in Fort Wayne history to be elected to three consecutive four-year mayoral terms. His 64.5 percent of the vote in 1995 tied the largest margin of victory for a Republican in the city of Fort Wayne.

Caroline McCarthy was a registered Republican before her first run for Congress.

And we cannot forget Mike Bloomberg, who only recently decided he was "no longer a Republican"

The loudest ones, was or still is, Repukes....

Just a point to think about... What interest do REPUKES have in helping DEMOCRATS win, or LOOSE, elections?

Would give a free forum to the NRA and the republicans, and not present the other side as they already are doing

I believe Obama will not take his advice either.

Krystal gave advice to Romney to release his tax returns, that won't happen either

If congress puts something on his desk regarding sensible gun regulation, I am sure he will sign it.
