Quinnipiac Poll: Obama and Romney tied in Virginia

A new Quinnipiac poll in Virginia finds Mitt Romney now in a dead heat with President Obama at 44% each.

Obama held an 8 point lead in March and a 5 point lead in June.

Said pollster Peter Brown: "Virginia voters are sharply split along gender and political lines about the presidential race. The two candidates equally hold their own political bases and are splitting the key independent vote down the middle. One small edge that President Obama has is likability. Voters have a slightly more favorable opinion of the president than they do Mitt Romney."

Another state where Obama is losing ground--adding to recent PPP polls of Iowa and New Mexico. It's going to be a long campaign with lots of ups and downs I think.

More R's, more men, more 55+ than then June sample. Use the same sample metrics as June? Obama up 6-8%

The likely voter universe can change dramatically as we near the election.

Many were shocked Obama won VA in 2008. Historically its a Red state. The urban areas, especially Northern VA made the difference.
