In Iowa, Hillary Clinton Refutes Dick Cheney On Iran

Sep 6, 2015 7:29 PM CDT
Regime developed nukes under Bush administration, not Obama's, she says.

Jennifer Epstein

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton took a not-so-subtle swing Sunday at former Vice President Dick Cheney’s claim that Iran developed nuclear capabilities after President Barack Obama took office.

"Iran was on a pretty fast track toward a nuclear weapon when Barack Obama became president,” Clinton said at a backyard house party in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Clinton backs the deal the administration has negotiated to lift sanctions on Iran in return for that country allowing inspections of its nuclear facilities, and plans to make a major speech about it Wednesday in Washington.

On the same day, Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump and Ted Cruz plan to appear with conservative talk show host Glenn Beck at a Capitol Hill rally against the deal.

Clinton's comments were a taste of the kind of tough talk that she said will be necessary to defeat the Republicans working against her. "It’s going to be a fight. Make no mistake about it. It’s going to be a hard election. The other side has said they will spend, do and say anything to win back the White House," she said. "I am absolutely confident that whatever they throw at me, I can throw it right back."..................

Political astuteness means: when even Fox attacks Cheney you are wise enough to know when to get your own knives out and go for the kill.

Instinctive political ability is a talent that you either have or you do not.

When the media let's down it's guard and gives you an opening, you or your staff had better know it.

It was obvious he planned to invade Iran after Iraq. But the US doesn't invade nuke nations. It only invades non-nuke nations. Bush made nuclear weapons a survival necessity for Iran.

but it seems that she did not take a public position on it until it was clear that there were enough votes to uphold the new treaty.

Wasn't her first statement about this in the interview with Mrs. Greenspan?

as a matter of fact the previous line on this by Bernie supporters was that she was taking credit for it despite not having done any work on it. Oh that was false too. Here is a link to a July 14th article in Politico. It took me one search to find.

Here is the headline

Hillary endorses nuclear deal

There is no quote from her taking credit or supporting the Iran deal.

There are only things like this:

Judging by her past words, Clinton may be surprised that Obama — along with Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany — was able to strike a deal with the Iranians. As the talks unfolded, Clinton at times sounded like someone who’d seen this movie before and expected the same unhappy ending.

Hillary to read minds and respond before it is said? Or simultaneously? Or the second after he said it?

By the way--Has Sanders responded. Curious if he did. Please post if I missed it.

7. It's hardly OP worthy that Hillary said something condemning Bush-Cheney. Or maybe it is.

I don't know. She throws shit out there and people go crazy.

Meanwhile, Senator Sanders stays on message and reminds us that this isn't about Bush and Iran, it's about jobs, and education, and fairness, and making the 1% pay their fair share.

This is your thread, where is Hillary on Capital Punishment or the Minimum Wage?
