Unacceptable.. email heading from Gov. O'Malley

Emily

The photograph of a young Syrian boy washed up on a Turkish beach has brought the refugee crisis into the forefront of international news. Citizens everywhere have expressed outrage as many governments have failed to act.

It is unacceptable that we, as a nation, would sit back and do nothing.

Americans are a generous and compassionate people. But our policies are falling short of those values. Yesterday, I supported the call from humanitarian and refugee organizations for the United States to accept at least 65,000 Syrian refugees next year. Join me now in echoing this call:

War and famine have displaced more than 11 million Syrians. Germany—whose population is one-fourth ours—is accepting 800,000 refugees this year, yet the United States has only committed to accepting up to 8,000 Syrian refugees next year.

We must do more. Join together if you agree, and tell the U.S. Government to commit to accept more Syrian refugees.

There are more refugees today than at any time since World War II. It's time we join together and lead by example.

Thanks,

Martin O'Malley

When is Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia going to step up. Those are 3 rich countries thay are close to the refugees. If we are going to have them by end of 2016 that is too late. Those 3 countries could immediately fix the problem due to proximity.
