2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe Clinton Hate Algorithm
START --> Hate the Clintons
STEP 1 --> Scan the media for any hint of impropriety
STEP 2 --> Investigate the impropriety
STEP 3 --> If the investigation turns up nothing, keep investigating
STEP 4 --> Use the fact of an investigation to cast aspersion onto Clinton even though the investigation found nothing
STEP 5 --> Repeat STEPS 3 and 4
STEP 6 --> When repeated investigations fail, find some other tangential impropriety to investigate
STEP 7 --> Repeat STEPS 2 through 4
STEP 8 --> When all of the investigations finally exhaust themselves, quietly report that nothing was found
END --> Repeat the entire loop

(8,760 posts)my solution would be that no matter what the subject matter of each email, every sentence
should include some damning or embarrassing true statement about Republicans.
ex: Our discussions concerning reasonable gun control have been moving along nicely,
almost as smoothly as they did when Ronald Reagan signed the bill banning open carry in California.
the Republicans are usually hypocritical on every issue under the sun, so it would be easy
to create a handy booklet or app that gives you a phrase for every occasion.

(23,664 posts)They tried the same thing, some of them are still trying it, but nothing has stuck. Nobody believes he's a Kenyan, a Muslim, or whatever. There is just no basis for any of their bullshit and people realize it.
Not so for the Clintons. There's always been a hint of sliminess and shady dealings around them, so when people hear these rumors, they are more disposed to pay attention.

He is better at message control and with heading these kinds of issues off at the pass.
Hillary is horrible at it. Part of me thinks she would prefer to be dogged by the nonsense than discuss issues or her competitors.

(46,585 posts)We aren't having a serious national discussion about important issues. I honestly think she prefers the distraction of the repurcussions of her private server over being tethered to a lecturn and being put on the spot.

(35,450 posts)The economy was in the midst of a 2nd Great Depression and two wars. People didn't have time for bullshit investigations.
In 1992 and now 2015, things are a bit calmer, so there's room for bullshit.

Due to millions being spent in order to demonize the Clintons throughout the 90's, with U.S. M$M propagating each and every conspiracy theory and no internet to counter them - most of which were outright lies - Republican and Libertarian elitists successfully created an air of "shadiness" around the Clintons. I'm sorry, but I'm not that gullible especially when I consider the source(s).
Had Bernie Sanders been president in the 90's, he would have carried a cloud of shadiness around him today, as well. Had President Obama ran for president in the 90's, he wouldn't have made it.
Thanks to Al Gore's foresight and push, the Interwebs became a reality, and Obama has been the beneficiary of that as his team countered each and every Republican lie while hitting back fast and hard despite the M$M working hard to promote Republicans.

(15,438 posts)GOP-propaganda machine it's become. People falsely believe that what they get from their broadcast/cable news outlets are unbiased news reports. Nothing can be further from the truth. Everything is reported in a way to make people feel suspicious, especially when it comes to reporting on Democrats. Look how they're demonizing Hillary Clinton today while completely ignoring that Bush and Cheney had deleted over 22 million e-mails and Jeb Bush used his own server and private e-mail, jeb@jeb.org, to conduct sensitive State business, and when he left office in 2007, he took his server with him.
In one e-mail sent four days after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the top general for the Florida Air National Guard told Bush that we are actively planning sequences in preparation for mobilization orders should they come.
They have not come at this time, wrote Ronald O. Harrison, who was adjutant general of Florida. We are pretty good at anticipating the type of forces potentially needed and are prepared to respond to the Presidents call.
Keep me informed of the mobilization, Bush wrote in reply.

A Pew Research study in 2012 showed that the sitting president, Obama, received the least favorable coverage across the board. In contrast, Perry and Romney got the most favorable. This study shows that U.S. M$M cannot be trusted when reporting on Democrats as opposed to Republicans. Everyone on the left side of center and center should distrust U.S. news.

(10,721 posts)there are still quite a few people who believe Obama is a Kenyan-born Muslim, if surveys are to be trusted.

(46,416 posts)so that you can hide from your "enemies" and avoid anything that may jeopardize your Presidential run
Step 2: Get said lackey a job at the State Dept. for which he is probably not qualified in order to keep up the hidden communications throughout your tenure
Step 3: Quit your cabinet post, never turn in any of your emails, even the ones Congress and FOIA's are asking about
Step 4: Engage Clinton Persecution Complex when people start asking questions
Step 5: Lie outright about "one device for convenience" after you've already bragged about the multiple devices you like to use
Step 6: Everything's overclassified, don'tcha think?
Step 7: Wait for lackeys to crawl under bus for you, get ready to shove them there if they don't look very willing.

(46,416 posts)Silly for anyone to deny that who you marry can make or break you, as if partnerships don't matter. Look at John McCain and his beer-fortune wife. He definitely benefitted politically in AZ from that marriage.

(59,507 posts)Not to mention, his own family was as connected as one might want - and their wealth was sufficient that he had no real financial problems - even when he was not rich. Even before he entered politics, he had already made history speaking before the SFRC.
karynnj
(59,507 posts)Obviously, that did make life financially easier for him, but he was already a member of a wealthy family
Teresa was incredibly rich, but Kerry was a member of a wealthy family so he never faced any real financial hardships. Although his personal life was obviously a lot happier with Teresa, his political aspirations had nothing to do with her wealth.
In fact, unlike anyone else - not the McCains or Clintons - it was argued that Teresa could contribute only the maximum that anyone could contribute.
While you can argue, that it is likely that on her own, HRC might never have entered politics or that she would not have gone as far. It is true, that because she DID marry Bill Clinton and he did become President, there is no way to really consider what her life would have been otherwise. -- there is no way to argue that about Kerry. He was asked at 27 by the host of 60 minutes if he wanted to be President. He won his first two elected offices against the party favorites by his own hard work and appeal.

(35,450 posts)But, you don't help your cause to jump on these bullshit Clinton scandals. They distract from the real issues that matter and it gives the infotainment media something to talk about instead of the real issues.
In fact, this shit may wind up helping her in the end because she IS being persecuted over complete bullshit.

And what exactly is my cause? I don't need to smear Clinton if she's doing a fine job at it.
In fact, this shit may wind up helping her in the end because she IS being persecuted over complete bullshit.
So why complain about it then?

(85,373 posts)they seemed like nice people, liberal and populist and smart and good public servants.
Then they started being recorded in public: words, actions, and so forth.
THAT'S where your algorithm starts....there's a REASON why people do not trust, want or support any more "public service" from this couple.

(35,450 posts)Um...Bill Clinton was elected president twice in 1992 and 1996. Hillary Clinton was elected senator of the NY in 2000. Hillary came in 2nd place in a heated presidential primary in 2008, and then she served as Sec. of State.
So, the facts seem to be in opposition to your statement:
"there's a REASON why people do not trust, want or support any more "public service" from this couple."
