I may be wrong but a large part of Pres. Obama's difficulties in this election cycle do not come from his putative opponent, the Bain of the Republicans, the Prince of Entitlement, Willard Mitt Romney. What is more most of the big money backers will be just as aware of Romney's weakness as the President and his supporters - for most of these big donors are not fools.
Once you accept that you have to ask why is so much money going into the Super PACs for no real gain?
The answer I have come up with is simple and frightening - House and Senate. Huge amounts of money will be going into advertisements for a republican Presidency but those same advertisements will probably feature local politicians and give them a boost, even if it is only in an apparent supporting role of the Massachusetts Moran. Additionally the money will push Republican messaging. The end result may be that Republicans increase their majority in the House and take the Senate.
If that happens can any one on this board see the President being able to pass any legislation or even avoid impeachment?
This idea explains why the President is attempting to destroy Romney's candidacy early so that he can target his money on stopping this disastrous outcome.
It does mean that Democratic supporters are going to have to work twice as hard to avoid catastrophe and, what is worse, may need to support some despicable DINOs.
I hope I am wrong and would welcome contradiction.

(16,916 posts)For the sake of argument let's say you're right.
#1. Romney is turning into such a failure of a candidate that his coattails will likely work like and anchor, dragging other federal, state , and local candidates down as well.
#2. If, on the narrow chance that Obama wins and both houses of the senate go Red, he's still got veto power.
#3. Finally, if Obama were to get impeached (for whatever fabricated reason), Biden would step in. You know how loyal Biden is to Obama, can you imagine a pissed off Biden as President?
#4. Imagine all these worse case scenarios coming to pass... where do you think you and I and the rest of the country will be in 2016? Voting every mother fucking Redcoat out of office, that's where. After that much partisan obstruction, every Dem and Independent, and some Republicans (the one looking to take their party back from the Teabaggies), will create a reluctant coalition and toss this country to the left. How far left will be up to those of us ON the left...
