(62,325 posts)is no longer the bases of either party, the question is 'who can energize the largest voting bloc, AND who can bring back the enormous non-voting bloc who have opted out of a system they believe no longer works for them.
As for the Dem base, Bernie, though the Dem base was never his primary target, is steadily energizing more and more of even the Dem base, while also drawing support across the political spectrum.
In several polls this month, Bernie is averaging over 22% of the Dem base, more in some polls, and half the country still doesn't know who he is. That is going to change of course and when a candidate continues to trend upwards every month I would say that is the candidate who is energizing people. Once they get to know him of course.
