Political Compass: US Election 2012 Overview

Its commentary about the election can be summed up in its first sentence:

"This is a US election that defies logic and brings the nation closer towards a one-party state masquerading as a two-party state."

It's scary how similar the two candidates are. To the right economically, and authoritarian socially.

5. Yeah - after all, the president would never allow deep water drilling...

...in the Gulf again - not after the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history; certainly not until the industry has developed technology that would prevent another disaster.

And the president would never let weed smokers go to jail while war criminals and banksters walk. He's all about justice.

Etc., etc., etc.

Lesser of evils, yes - still a corporate servant, you bet.

6. So you really think there virtually no difference??

When looking at the big picture.. of the hundreds and hundreds of issues a President has to deal with.. you think a President Romney would deal with them about the same as a President Obama??

If you believe that you need therapy.

7. Sure, there are plenty of differences - especially when it comes to social issues...

...but both parties - or, rather, our one corporate party - serves corporate America first.

I think the main reason the President made some tough decisions that benefited business was due to the seriousness of the economic crisis. Economic recovery took precidence over everything else and rightly so. If the economy continued to tank nothing else would have mattered.

That does not mean he is pro-business. Once the economy has stabilized I am convinced he is going to get tough on big business.. environmental, labor laws, tax loopholes, etc.

Big oil, big pharma, the mic and other corporate entities run both parties and will until the people stop fighting each other and demand that gov't serve them.

...has nothing to do with the economic situation - and neither has cracking down on medical marijuana facilities. In the first instance, it's answering to big oil - and in the second, it's answering to big pharma.

And anyone who really takes this as proof of anything shouldn't be taken seriously, either.

But that won't stop a great deal of DUers from suggesting there is no difference between either candidate. Forget that this isn't the case and all you have to do is listen to their rhetoric or hear what they plan to do to get this. That would take too much time.

Only one candidate is pro-choice.
Only one candidate supports equality for all Americans.
Only one candidate is fighting for the DREAM Act.
Only one candidate opposes Paul Ryan's budget plan.
Only one candidate is advocating raising taxes on the wealthy.
Only one candidate supports unions.
Only one candidate supports infrastructure spending.
Only one candidate supports a woman's right to contraceptives.
Only one candidate supports allowing gay men & women to serve openly in the military.
Only one candidate support(ed) the end of the Iraq War.
Only one candidate supports the ending of the Afghanistan War.
Only one candidate supports a reasonable, cautious approach to Iran.
Only one candidate believes in Global Warming.
Only one candidate supported the auto bailout.
Only one candidate supports barring insurance from considering preexisting conditions.
Only one candidate has proposed a jobs program.
Only one candidate opposes the gutting of Social Security and Medicare.
Only one candidate is ready to fight for women.
Only one candidate supports equal pay for women.
Only one candidate supports regulation.
Only one candidate supports not raising taxes on the middle class.
Only one candidate killed bin Laden.

Guess what? His name isn't Mitt Romney.

If you rotate your post only one line can fit between the Romney and Obama dots. I guess one would have to use .0000001 point font to make the chart be an accurate representation.

BTW, that chart is one of the dumbest things I have seen posted here.

Sadly Obama, like many other Democrats today, has allowed the party to be pushed to the right and does very little to advocate left-wing policies or fight for the type of things that FDR did.

What is most disturbing about Obama is how much of a Hawk he has turned out to be. He is absolutely ruthless when it comes to drone attacks, military policy, increasing the powers of Homeland Security, the FBI, the military etc. Even one of Obama's former colleagues at the University of Chicago Law School has raised the alarm.

Obama has signed off on anything the military-industrial complex has wanted.
