(BLM offshoot)Campaign Zero-police violence policy recommendations / how the candidates stack up

An offshoot of BLM has started an policy initiative to end police violence. They've recently met with the 3 major Dem primary contenders. And they also have an interesting set of tables on their home page, which shows which candidates, Dem and GOP, already include their recommendations in their platforms.

Scroll down the home page to find the tables, for easy comparison of Dem to GOP and Dem to Dem.

Edited to add their table showin 3 leading Democratic candidates policies on ending police violence:

Weekly steroid testing. They should have to submit to bi-monthly credit checks, render the passwords to all emails and social media, and provide bank records to ensure they are not "on the take."

Additionally, anyone found "not guilty" should be allowed to sue the officer for false imprisonment. Not sure why we don't see more of this now tbh.

not strictly police, but a significant part of the same "law enforcement" system.

The immediate need for those of us who are black - is to just stop killing us for shits and giggles . . . because that's how it looks and feels.

As well, we are being used as cannon fodder in the 2016 election. You have to start somewhere.

These are black Americans immediate needs. We always show up for the Democratic party and every single one running in our primary needs to adapt the platform in full.

This is most important. It does seem to be an active genocide of Black lives by the authorities. It must stop now and there must be criminal justice. There will never be peace about this because it is so vile that it is unforgivable, but we ALL must stop this and prosecute the perpetrators.

I agree, what riles me the most is that supporters of all ilks are using BLM as a way to further their candidate or their talking points. It really feels like something so dreadful is used like a football to cross a goal line.

It really needs to stop, we really all must remember our humanity first and not the election.

Thanks for posting this in a g.d. type forum. Although - discussing this in another group this weekend- someone pointed out that they didn't touch economic justice. I retorted - let all those big smart pols in DC figure it out - they are so smart. That's their problem - not BLM's Zero Tolerance team.

This is the team!

ST. LOUIS -- Dozens of protesters were arrested Monday outside the U.S. attorney's office in downtown St. Louis during a demonstration against police brutality.

DeRay Mckesson and Johnetta Elzie -- prominent activists in the Black Lives Matter movement -- were among the 57 people detained during the sit-in. They were released after being issued a summons alleging obstruction of the courthouse doorways, U.S. Attorney Richard Callahan said in a statement.

Meet The Teach For America Official Charged With Bringing Change To Ferguson And Beyond
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/11/19/ferguson-commission-teach-for-america_n_6183138.html
FERGUSON, Mo. -- Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon (D) on Tuesday announced the 16 members of the Ferguson Commission, which was established to address issues of racial and economic inequality in the St. Louis region following the shooting of Michael Brown. One of the commission's members is the top Teach For America official in St. Louis, who has been helping organize protests over the past several months.

Brittany Packnett, who is also one of the youngest members of the commission, is a native of St. Louis County. She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, and got a graduate degree at American University while working for Teach For America in southeast Washington, D.C. Later, Packnett worked as a congressional staffer for U.S. Rep. Lacy Clay (D-Mo.) before returning to her hometown to become the executive director of Teach For America in St. Louis.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Packnett said she took on a role on the commission, which is expected to submit its final report by September 2015, because she was assured it would be independent. She believes that the biggest contribution the commission can make is "firmly clarifying" the policy solutions that are necessary for "systemic change" in the region.

"I don't think the commission is the answer. I think it's part of the answer that is potentially well-positioned to push progress forward in a truly systemic way," Packnett said.

A fundamental problem I have had with BLM is the vague unanswerable nature of their demands and criticisms.

This is specific that addresses root causes of the issue of law enforcement and criminal justice. There can be debates about pros and cons of specifics, but it gives it concrete terms to talk about.

It also makes the candidates accountable in specific ways, rather than whether or not they "support" an end to racism.

As a Bernie supporter, it also sets the record straight.
