Related: About this forumHow Has Your Candidate Specifically Addressed Civil Rights?
I'm not asking for 'stances' or 'promises.' I'm asking what has your candidate done, or specifically proposed, to address civil rights for minorities in this country?

(19,460 posts)More recently, she has addressed the voting right issues particularly in light of what some states are trying to do, Black Lives Matter, LGBT issues, Rights for Women and children, She has set out some policy proposals for ensuring fairness in arrests by local and state police as well as the justice system as a whole.

(11,709 posts)That is the exact opposite of what I asked. What has she actually set out as policy proposals? What bills did she co-sponsored in her time in the Senate? What has she actually done?

(19,460 posts)She will set out policy proposals as soon as she wins the nomination. Some of those will be outlined in the debates.

(11,709 posts)I at least give you credit for making a case for your candidate. It's more than anyone else has done.
Maybe our biggest problem is that no one has really given minorities more than lip service for a very long time.

(11,709 posts)Perhaps you need to spend more time with a dictionary and less time figuring out ways to take offense.

(11,709 posts)The difference is between "I'm going to stop mean people from discriminating against you" and "I'm going to push for legislation to provide training and 10,000 jobs in poor, urban neighborhoods."
I don't think any of our candidates have been nearly as strong on these issues as they should be. We have a permanent class of poverty in this country and no one is getting to the core of the problem. We need education, training, jobs and stability.
We don't need more vague promises.

(45,319 posts)What would be meaningful is legislation presented. In your example, I am not clear about what 'push' means, nor 'provide', I do not know which areas will benefit nor what sort of jobs are being suggested. 10,000? Los Angeles County alone currently has over 350,000 unemployed in a county with over 4 million jobs on the market.
So a proposal to somehow push to somehow provide some sort of jobs for a few thousand people in places yet to be determined just does not reach much beyond 'I'm going to stop mean people from discriminating against you'.
However, laws that offer recourse when people face discrimination in the job marketplace are very important and are still badly needed in this country. Bernie Sanders has been a part of making such legislation into law for many years, although it is not yet done and although others had been trying for 20 years before him. Republicans vote against this legislation, as have some Democrats in the past.

(11,709 posts)I wasn't trying to actually create legislation on the fly. I'm hoping our candidates have, and will, spend a great deal of time with real numbers and understanding of the situation before coming out with detailed proposals.
I'm supporting Bernie because I believe he has done more to advance the causes of minorities than practically anyone in politics today, but still not enough. That said, I'm not going to use this thread as a platform for his policies as I really am interested in hearing if anyone at DU knows of specific policy proposals and past achievements of their candidates in this area.
So far, I haven't seen anything. That's not good.

(11,709 posts)I called out leftofcool for posting a link so it's only fair. That way, if there are specifics, people can see them here instead of having to dig for them.
