2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumKentucky Gov. Steve Beshear for VP?
I'm thinking that another dark horse candidate that would be a good vice president would be Kentucky Gov. Beshear, a moderate Democrat. Beshear has done great work implement Kynect, a branch of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), which saves millions of lives and cuts health care costs, reduces the deficit; Beshear's brand of old school governance could benefit Hillary Clinton or a Bernie Sanders; and Beshear could bring white working class voters from the South back to the Democratic column, especially in states like Kentucky, West Virginia, Arkansas, Missouri (if it is a Southern state). Beshear is also ready to be president on day one, the most important aspect of being vice president of the United States.
Gov. Beshear has dedicated his entire life to the people of Kentucky, the Democratic Party, and the country. Beshear ran for the Kentucky Senate seat against Sen. Mitch McConnell in 1996, but lost. Beshear brought his political career back into full gear in 2007, defeating then Gov. Ernie Fletcher, who was corrupt and out of touch with Kentuckians. Beshear would be a good dark horse choice for vice presidency in 2016. A Clinton/Beshear ticket can be formidable nationwide. Thoughts?

(2,707 posts)because recent polling has shown Hillary to be way more competitive there than other recent Dems, not to mention they won twice there in 92 and 96. Even if Hillary doesn't win there in 2016, at least she'll do better than other recent Dems, and b. make GOPers spend time and money there.
On another note, if we're looking for Appalachian youth, this guy looks good.

(1,290 posts)I like Beshear to some extent, and he's probably much less anti-gay than he lets on, but the fact remains that he defended Kentucky's same-sex marriage ban to the Supreme Court. He's toxic, especially for somebody like Hillary who struggles with the left wing.

(14 posts)In KY he can't even talk about the ACA or Obamacare with out nothing but hate doing from the people of KY even though KYCare/Connect or what ever they call it is Obamacare. He basically has to lie to the people of KY about the ACA and KY to keep his job.
I don't see him a much of a fighter for liberal or progressive causes either.
If he is such a good Democrat he may better serve the people by remaining Gov of KY.
However it is a free country still, kinda sorta or he is free to run for VP or Dog Catcher so he can do what he wants.
