Coworkers, friends...

Lots of people are sick of more of the same in politcs and are ready for a candidate they can get excited about.

My dad, who has voted R since Reagan (prior to that he was a committed Democrat, I never asked him what happened) has really shown an interest in Bernie Sanders. I have quite a few Facebook friends who have jumped on board also.

What I meant is that promoting bernie here in Vermont is pointless. He's incredibly popular here.

how hard it is going to be to end the gross disparities in our system where a few 'affluent' families own so much of the wealth of this country and for whom no amount of wealth will ever be enough and who are buying our government to make sure that they stay in control of how the wealth of this country is distributed.

that have shown interest, translated meaning a few republicans who say they may be able to put those issues aside for a Sanders win. Cross over appeal is good, and he's not pandering to get it. His positions have broad appeal.

one of them actually supports Trump, one of them is a Republican that hates Trump.

I pushed Bernie on both of them as speaking truth to power, someone that actually cares about them.

I don't believe the Trump supporter will change, he's too enamored with blunt talk and celebrity, but the other one is definitely thinking about it.

Thanks for the thread, Puzzledtraverller.

At least they seem to have recently begun endorsing his policies...

In a policy paper released Friday, former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley called for more generous Social Security benefits, partly paid for with higher taxes on workers who make more than $250,000 a year.
The presidential contender's proposal is similar to the one released earlier this year by his rival, Bernie Sanders.
---
Hillary Clinton, the frontrunner in next year's primary, has yet to put out a detailed plan. In 2008, she said she opposed the tax increase, although she recently suggested her views may be changing.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonkblog/wp/2015/08/21/democratic-candidates-want-the-rich-to-pay-for-fatter-social-security-checks/

But I don't think either of them has formally endorsed his candidacy... yet.

I think fear is what has kept many Democrats from expressing approval if not endorsement for Bernie Sanders. If things begin to seem less certain and I believe that is beginning to happen I think we will see more Democrat politicians come out in support of Bernie Sanders.

and if the situation seems muted now then you had better believe the reality is much more serious and grave. I truly think the administration knows what she is facing and it isn't good. We need to pick our candidate that will take us forward before they pick them for us. I expect to see more about Biden in the news.

His snarky comments and hit pieces about Bernie have probably turned more than one undecided to the real progressive in the race.

I know every time I read them I've made the right choice.

This is probably not the best way to do this and if it is against any rules please delete. I haven't participated in any forums in years and it says I can't start my own post. This seemed like the logical post to pose my question.So....here goes.

I was a Republican for years (now I don't consider myself to have any political affiliation), actually since I joined the military in the early 90's. Got kinda disenchanted with them about 5-6 years ago and haven't paid any attention to politics or politicians since. Felt like no politician really cared about anything besides getting elected anyway. I feel like this country has been in a steady decline for most of my life regardless who is in DC. I have only heard snips of any potential candidate so far because I change the channel as soon as one comes on.

Something is telling me to pay attention to Bernie Sanders. In my googling I came across some posts here and figured I would give it a shot.

Don't know if I would be welcomed here since I admit to being a former Republican, so I didn't fill out a profile or make an introduction post (do they still do that?). I anyone really has any questions about me feel free to ask. I just don't want to keep sitting out elections because it feels like it doesn't matter.

They are mainly brother, as sister is a cheerleader for Democratic party's pics, a.k.a. HRC. She'll only support him if he wins primary. Enough said with that one…

My co-workers see me a lot. They listen to the issues. You know, you need only talk about the issues and Bernie follows that. Still… many are in a haze and are not used to such conversations.

All the people who I consider to be progressives, there are varying degrees of dialogue. This is a long conversation, not so much to call attention to the candidate, as what CAN be done about the issues? People are pretty clueless about how we got here, but sure want to discuss what to do about it.

I never had to worry about my SO. He's my hero on the issues and we engage in a LOT of discussion on that, the backlash of everyone who clings on to the past because we're supposed to be at some football game. We feel a bit isolated as a minority of people, but we aren't afraid of what is, so much as what will be if we don't all come together now.

But I talked to them about Bernie, and they got stirred up. They are all 30 somethings. Several co workers are now on board. And, though I haven't declared my support for Sanders on DU, I think I might've just outed myself.

but something went wrong and she swung hard right. I can see people changing their politics in little ways as they get older, in either direction but she went to the extreme right. I posted my Sanders support on FB and she was aghast. She is really big on the border and I took pleasure in telling her Sanders position on the border and immigration is better than most republicans. That he is not for open borders. I know I wont change her mind but maybe it will give her pause for thought.
