Bernie Sanders promises to tackle racism as president

LONG GROVE, Iowa -- After bounding atop a blue trailer in a community park, Bernie Sanders quickly reminded people here that Iowa had helped elect the nation's first black president.

The next step, he said, is addressing racial discrimination and the recent shootings of unarmed blacks by law enforcement.

"I know that I speak for all of you that we are sick and tired of reading about and seeing videos of unarmed African-Americans being shot," Sanders said Sunday at a Democratic picnic. "We know that if those individuals were white, the odds are very strong that would not have happened to them."

....

At the Wing Ding fundraiser, a high-profile gathering of Democrats in northern Iowa, Sanders rattled off the names of shooting victims in Ferguson, Missouri, Baltimore, New York and elsewhere. "On and on that list goes! That has got to end," Sanders said.

At the Iowa State Fair on Saturday, Sanders thanked the state's electorate "for their courage in voting for Obama in 2008. What you showed is that a state which is mostly white could go beyond the color of a candidate's skin and vote for somebody based on their character and their ideas."

During Sunday's picnic, Sanders said the country should be proud that it had become a "less discriminatory society" but said racism remains a major problem "that together we must overcome."

At the age of seventy he has decided to go from supporter and activist to leader. In the middle of my life I feel like I am losing energy. The days feel longer and time seems to be running out quicker to get things accomplished. Here is a seventy year old guy, who clearly has more than enough energy, moving from activist and support roles to an attempt to lead in the very latter years of his life.

Simply put, I'm doing it wrong. I really need to assess my diet and exercise. It's not just Sanders, Hillary as well. They are like superstars of energy well past what most of us would consider retirement age.

He is 73 and I am 61 and I think daily that I am not going to be able to keep this farm up all by myself for much longer. It seems that 60 began to zap me. Perhaps there is another energizing point after 60? Hope so, 50 was a great point for re-energizing. 60 not so much. He amazes me. Whew, now I need a nap!

I don't know how some people manage to keep up that level of energy day in and day out. There isn't much I wouldn't give for that kind of motivation.

And I am totally on board with highlighting cases like Sandra Bland, Tamir Rice, and Eric Garner. But the DOJ report on Brown is pretty persuasive in making the case that the available evidence favors the conclusion that Wilson's use of force against Brown was not objectively unreasonable. Sanders has done a good job supporting the BLM cause without pandering, but in suggesting that Brown was wrongfully killed, he is close to the line.

Him wasting time and money introducing a bunch of bills in the senate he won't take the time to try to get passed just so he can use them in his campaign. This is now a pattern for him.

There is no "to do" list. There are disruptive posters who just cannot adhere to the TOS or community standards. It is all on them.

"Community standards" = Some can get away with the non-stop sniping and insults, others....not so much.

Mob behavior is just fascinating.

"It is on all of them."

they tend to get their insulting posts hidden.

You are still posting here. As are hundreds of other posters supporting various candidates and issues. There is no mob behavior and no victim. That is nonsense and bullshit. There is, however, an insulting and offensive poster who can't keep themselves in line.

The load is that repeat offenders are permitted to stay and keep disrupting.

Sorry, no...

We've been watching this production unfold for awhile now. Those of us who are seeing this for what it is aren't stupid.

Community Standards = Mob Rule

THAT describes the current state of affairs on this board. I knew this poster would be shut down in short order, and so did you. Honestly, her hidden post was one of the least offensive in that entire thread.

Spray and pray strategy in action. Alert, alert, alert....till ya snag one.

Mission Accomplished.

Now I'll have to stop there, I'm quite sure that I'm on the same list.

Do you really think there is a list?

You knew the poster would be shut down because they have a history of being insulting and offensive.

When you act like an ass, you will not get the benefit of the doubt on close calls. It is easy to NOT lose posting privileges. Most don't lose their privileges. There is nothing special about the repeat offenders except that they can't learn to not offend the standards.

I have no idea whether you have had any hides nor do I care. Have you been on time-out more than you have had your posting privileges? That is the relevant question. There are a small handful of disruptors who can't stay active. They are not special, not victims, just disruptors.

disagree with your mythical mob and aren't on routine time out.

If disruptor equaled disagreement with "groupthink" many more would fall to the vicious mob rule. You are defending a poster who cannot manage to be civil, despite repeated chances. They simply cannot modify their posting habits so as to not be rude, insulting and offensive. It has nothing to do with disagreement. That is just silliness and laziness.

draw attention to a repeat disruptor who for some unknown reason, the admins permit to stay and disrupt.

I think the admins allow it because that poster, as well a very few others, keep themselves banned from posting, allowing the admins to remain hands off.

We all knew that the poster would get more hides in short time. And it has nothing to do with a fantasy mob. It has to do with a disruptive and insulting poster.
