Related: About this forumComparing Sanders and O'Malley's Criminal Justice Reform Plans
Now, that we have 2 candidates who have released detailed criminal justice reform plans I thought it would be interesting to compare them to each other. While this is not the sum of either candidate's positions on criminal justice reform, it is interesting to see what each candidate included in their plan. And while I am an O'Malley supporter, Sanders remains my 2nd choice and I think both plans are excellent and worthy of discussion.
Please Note: As Hillary hasn't released her plan yet, I am not including her in my comparison. Yes, I know she's made statements, but it isn't a full plan. I'll wait until she releases the plan for that comparison.

(1,464 posts)I do think it is interesting to see what each candidate emphasized though. I think O'Malley has better knowledge of the justice system as a Mayor of a big city, prosecutor and defense attorney so he focused his attention there. Sanders was better on voting rights because that is something he's been passionate about for years.
I was disappointed that Sanders ignored immigration since it is so intertwined with the criminal justice system and that he didn't address the issues with defendants not getting due process or attorneys for their court appearances.
And I was disappointed that O'Malley didn't address the militarizing of the police.

(56,582 posts)At least that looks like his best play to me; roughly, coming after Webb's constituency from the left rather than the right. But in any case his economic message pretty much demands a hard line on immigration.
..thanks for the chart!
