From his website:
PORTLAND, Ore. Shattering a day-old record, 28,000 backers of Bernie Sanders on Sunday filled all the seats and crowded into overflow areas outside the Moda Center sports arena where the NBAs Portland Trail Blazers play.
Whoa. This is an unbelievable turnout, Sanders said after he walked onto the stage. Consistently drawing bigger turnouts than any other presidential contender, Sanders told the packed Portland arena, Youve done it better than anyone else. The arena seats were filled and thousands more listened to the speech on loudspeakers outside, according to Michael Lewellen, a Rose Quarter vice president. The total turnout far surpassed the 15,000 in Seattle just 24 hours earlier.
The big and boisterous crowds, Sanders said, are sending a message that its time to reverse the four-decade decline of the American middle class and launch a grassroots political revolution to take on the billionaire class. Bringing people together, Sanders added, is at the core of his campaign.
Sanders also called for criminal justice reform. There is no candidate who will fight harder to end institutional racism in this country and to reform our broken criminal justice system, he said.
In the nearly hour-long speech, Sanders touched on economic and jobs proposals, criminal justice reform and civil rights issues.
On domestic issues, the U.S. senator from Vermont advocated raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2020, closing tax loopholes exploited by the wealthy and profitable corporations, undertaking a massive $1 trillion program to fix roads and bridges and create or sustain 13 million jobs, a Medicare-for-all health care system to provide better care for more people at less cost, an expansion of Social Security and tuition-free college.
In an interview broadcast earlier Sunday on the CBS program Face the Nation, Sanders had made the case for the agreement with Iran reached by President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry. Look, Im not going to tell you that this is a perfect agreement, he said. But the United States has to negotiate with other countries. We have to negotiate with Iran. And the alternative of not reaching an agreement, you know what it is? Its war. Do we really want another war, a war with Iran?

Bernie needs professional security from here on. There are wealthy and corrupt forces working against him .....
This is kind of like game of thrones.
Regular working people lose unless they all work together.

(5,217 posts)Allowing 4,000 American soldiers and hundreds of thousands of innocent Iragis to die for the oil companies was no problem for them, so ethics and guilty consciences aren't an impediment to them.
So basically it boils down to whether or not they will be held accountable. Considering we have trouble indicting cops who shoot unarmed civilians point blank and caught on video, I think we know how that will play out, especially with the M$M shoveling disinformation and running interference for them.
So yeah. It's some serious shit.

"Yes we do have the guts to take you on!" and we're being nice about it by leaving the pitchforks at home.

(41,600 posts)It was a fantastic speech - 28,000 people at one rally! Imagine that!
The Washington D.C. establishment is, no doubt, plotting their next move against him.
I do hope he gets a security detail now? I really worry about him. He's upsetting the powers that be.
Go, Bernie!

(41,600 posts)but Obama had death threats (hundreds of them) during his first campaign and was immediately given SS protection. I don't know if Bernie has had those kind of threats, but people making it to the stage and manhandling him - is dangerous. It could have been anyone rushing the stage.
If he can't get SS protection, maybe they can find the funds to hire a security firm? He needs it desperately.

(22,000 posts)The hate groups really went unhinged when he announced and that's why he pretty much got SS protection right away.
Yes, Sanders needs to hire security and it looked from this event that he had security. I also saw a Portland Police officer standing beside him just as he walked out. I doubt Sanders will get SS protection until next year unless something changes.

(19,537 posts)Will they break this record too? Part of me hopes so. Part of me wants to keep the distinction of Portland being at the top too. But most important in my book is the momentum needed to make this man president! WE NEED HIM!

was spot on!
I've listened to many of his speeches and this one still fired me up! He's really honed his speech and added many issues including racial justice, addressing small business needs, and the Iran deal.
I have more hope than ever that Bernie is at the very least going to change the debate and challenge both parties to step and make things happen and hopefully he'll be our next president to lead in changing the course of history for America. It's going to be a hard and contentious fight but Bernie is every bit up to the challenge and giving it his all.

(19,089 posts)Every seat you see in this picture is occupied ... We were at capacity, surely ....
Symone Sanders was wonderful, as were the local speakers ...
The conspicuous absence of either Representatives Blumenour or Bonamici, or Senator Wyden, was a given .... given that all inexplicably voted YES on TPA ... (What was the Quid Pro Quo for them?)
People were very very happy to see and hear Senator Sanders. It was the best political rally I have ever attended.
Bernie is officially a force of nature ... Go Bernie ...

(39,961 posts)Olav V wanted to go skiing. The energy crisis mandated that use of personal motor vehicles were restricted, and could not be used that day. In keeping with the mandate imposed by the citizens, he followed them, too. He got on the bus with his skis.
When asked how did he dare to go out in public without bodyguards, He replied "I have 4 million bodyguards" the entire population was 4 million.
