(67,782 posts)The place only seats 19,900 and the ENTIRE upper level is empty and lower level half empty.
Try maybe 8 or 9 thousand?

(11,366 posts)And there are at least one or two thousand more on the floor where there are no seats.
The pictures I posted above were while it was filling up. The live feed shows that it's packed to the hilt.
The official count is more than 20,000.
Sorry. Nice try.
Arugula Latte
(50,566 posts)I have been texting people who are there and it is PACKED. The floor is packed, too, which puts it over 20,000.
20,000+ -- Who is laughing now?

(50,566 posts)Fawke Em
(11,366 posts)More than 20,000 at the event and another 11,000 watched it on live streams.
31,000 people listened to Bernie tonight.

(2,334 posts)It was packed to the rafters. All tiers were full. I'd say 22K easy.

Yup, almost 20,000 inside and 8,000 in the overflow areas outside.
So who's laughing now?
Comrade Grumpy
(13,184 posts)kath
(10,565 posts)As if 8,000 or 9,000 would have been shabby for Senator Bernie No Name Recognition and No Money Worth Mentioning.
Under the circumstances, I sure would have felt the Bern at around 10K.
Of course, 28,000 (with overflow) is much better.

(9,497 posts)For my memory book.
Thank you!
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)and 9,000 had to listen from OUTSIDE!
So that would make it 19,000 inside and 9,000 outside.
Some seats were probably reserved for the press and because they were behind the podium, just guessing as to why it only held 19,000

(62,325 posts)Bernie supports that, so the activists were working to get people out to this event.
The movement is growing way faster than even Bernie expected himself.
It's truly amazing!

(8,175 posts)The crowd packed the basketball arena with a capacity of up to 19,000 as thousands more couldn't get inside and listened in on loudspeakers. A Moda Center official, Michael Lewellen, estimated the crowd at the free event totaled 28,000.

(3,417 posts)I am nearly 63 years old. I am probably the youngest member of my water aerobics class at Mt. Scott pool in working-class southeast Portland. I was amazed that at least five of the folks in the pool went to the rally last night. Another three said that they watched the live stream. All were excited about what they saw.
This is not a young white liberal phenomenon. Sanders' appeal is broad. His populist message resonates with all kinds of people. When you get past the media-imposed labels, his positions reflect the frustrations of boomers who watched their prosperity stolen by the supply-side criminals from Reagan and the two Bushes (with significant help from Bill Clinton).
It is not a radical idea to spread the prosperity of a nation in a way that rewards investment AND labor.
