2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSanders can't beat Clinton, but Biden can
Bernie-mania isn't as manic as it was a month ago, and Hillary Clinton is still running a bend-but-don't break campaign that never seems to deviate from the script. But this weekend, the flat-lining Democratic primary came back to life with whispers of Vice President Biden entering the race. According to Maureen Dowd at The New York Times, Biden has been "talking to friends, family and donors about jumping in."
Don't get me wrong; a load of progressive writers out there love Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), and his alleged surge has been their quill-fuel for weeks now. Those stories focus on three aspects: giant crowds, Iowa and New Hampshire polls, and small donation money.
What they gloss over is national polling data. Here's why.
Clinton's lead over Sanders in national polls is enormous. Most recently, she's up 38 points on Sanders in the CNN and Quinnipiac polls, 40 points in a Fox News poll and 49 in the most recent ABC/Washington Post poll. This is despite the fact the Clinton's campaign is running a prevent defense: very careful not to deviate from the script because anything she says could be used against her in one of the scandals she's currently wrapped in.
Sanders has a core demographic and he's not making headway in widening his appeal. Several journalists have pointed out that he isn't drawing in minority voters. According to Geoffrey Skelley, associate editor at Sabato's Crystal Ball, "much of his support is coming from whites who are particularly liberal." In fact, a recent Fox poll shows Biden 5 points ahead of Sanders among nonwhite voters, despite the fact that he isn't even an official candidate yet.

I think this is rubbish. All I hear is Bernie this and that and "I can't vote for Hillary". I for one cannot stand Biden and his Drug Warrior stance. the fact that he attached the RAVE ACT to the Amber Alert bill is sickening.
