.....(snip).....
First, they ignored him.
Then, when Bernie started surging in the polls and they couldn't get away with ignoring him, they laughed at him and said he was just another long-shot protest candidate.
When that didn't work, they went on the attack, seeking to paint Bernie as bad on race, guns, and immigration.
Now the mainstream media has started going after Bernie for, you guessed, it being a "socialist."
The man leading this line of attack is MSNBC's Chris Matthews, who first brought it up on an episode of "Hardball" Thursday night when he asked Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz the difference between a "Democrat like Hillary Clinton and a socialist like Bernie Sanders."
Schultz couldn't give a straight answer and flubbed the question once again when Chuck Todd asked her it on "Meet the Press" yesterday. .................(more)

(31,464 posts)I've been saying this since before Bernie was running. Americans will not elect a Socialist. Not because we wouldn't actually do well, do much better, with a truly Socialist system, rather it is because we've been indoctrinated our entire lives to believe that "Socialism is EVIL!" Americans are mostly too stupid to even understand our current fucked-up system of Corporate governance, never mind voting for something they learned was the Devil incarnate, way back in grade school.
I love you Bernie. But it will never happen.

Firing someone from their program is a sure way to keep the other talking heads in line.

(13,340 posts)He is not a deeply analytical thinker. If you want that, read Nate Silver. He relies on 'common sense discourse" and is an intuitive thinker.
His political instincts are interesting (and often right), but he is easily swayed by dominant narratives.

(75,480 posts)His opinion changes as the vane changes direction. It's too bad that he has become a news demimonde to the corporation that pays him. It's too bad to because Chris really knows his history, politics and how Washington operates. There was a time he was an honest journalist. I used to read his columns in the San Francisco Chronicle before he became a television personality and they were brilliant. It's too bad he followed the money instead.
