The question is though, in the modern age, is it possible for a President to win 2 non-consecutive terms like Grover Cleveland did, or will that remain an artifact of the past?

Indiana was the difference and Cleveland lost it by 2,348 votes and they only won it because of fraud.

That helped secure Cleveland a second term four years later (that and the fact he won the popular vote). If Obama wins the popular vote in November and barely loses, maybe by fraud in a swing state, I see no reason why he couldn't make a comeback similar to Cleveland.

The reason you don't see many presidential losers reemerge is because presidents generally lose in landslides when they do lose:

H.W. Bush in '92
Carter in '80
Hoover in '32.

The only incumbent who didn't lose in a landslide was Ford and he wasn't even elected in the first place.
