"Character": how much of a role in voters' decisions ?

Does perception of "character" still play a vital role in voters' minds, especially the undecided ? I think it does but I could easily be wrong. This thread was sparked by the thread about Rmoney's horses.

Of course, President Obama's character is vastly superior to Rmoney's.
