2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumabsolutely brutal pro-Biden anti-Hillary article
After raising $1 million for Barack Obama during his two presidential runs, New York businessman Jon Cooper was exactly the kind of high-powered political bundler Hillary Clinton wanted on her team during this years run. But after agreeing to serve as a Hillstarter as the Clinton campaign had dubbed its elite fundraisers Cooper sat down at his computer a few months ago to write a fundraising pitch for the former secretary of state and froze.
I was trying to come up with a rationale for her candidacy and I couldnt do it, Cooper tells Yahoo News. Clinton, he concluded, was too calculating, too cautious, too controlled.

(10,007 posts)Over the past 20 years, MBNA has been Bidens single largest contributor. And as the New York Times and Wall Street Journal note, Bidens son Hunter was hired out of law school by MBNA and later worked as a lobbyist for the company.
The Times also details just how helpful Biden has been to MBNA and the credit card industry. The senator was a key supporter of an industry-favorite billthe Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005that actually made it harder for consumers to get protection under bankruptcy.
Thank bankruptcy bill was straight-up heinous.

Bernie doesn't throw dirt either, telling the truth is not throwing dirt.
Both are very decent men with very little baggage, maybe an overnighter here or there, but no freightcar full. Problems will come from differences in policies between Biden & Bernie and the DLC. The Republicans will go easy on Biden, not too easy, but there are a lot of friendships there in the Senate with Biden and Bernie. I think it might be more cordial than we expect.

(10,044 posts)same as me, head tells us Bernie, heart tells us Biden..
What the hell are we supposed to do? Another nice guy is that guy, O'Malley, and they're all from the NE. The south won't tolerate more than one NEener.

(8,760 posts)Bernie lost about 12% and Hillary lost about 20%.
If Biden announces, I would think that both of those numbers would go up a bit. Hillary will lose more than Bernie, though.

(16,685 posts)Biden is not going to pull any support from Sanders. You either have no clue as to why Sanders is appealing to people or you are pushing a narrative to try and fit someone's agenda.

(62,325 posts)it the # issue that has to be resolved due its corrosive effects on our political system. Until that happens, he stated, NOTHING ELSE can be done.
He more or less acknowledged that 'even you like me, trust me, know that the best people can be corrupted by money'.
I got the feeling he did some things he felt he had to do, such as some of the votes he case during his time in the Senate, and now believes this must be resolved in order to ensure that no one has to compromise their principles due to the money they take from Corporate entities.

(8,760 posts)It is the tone of that article that is brutal.....it undermines her.
The response by Jennifer Palmieri, the Clinton campaigns communications director is even worse.
But questions about honesty and trustworthiness are beside the point, she argues. Thats not the question voters have in their heads when they decide who to vote for,
When your communications director concedes on the issues of "honesty and trustworthiness"
the Republican attack ads write themselves.

(11,945 posts)I could see him siphoning off middle-of-the-road votes from Hillary and from Democrats who don't know much about Bernie.
But if we want to begin the process of restoring an "of the people, by the people, for the people" democracy to America, Bernie is the only candidate.
Depends on what you want for America, for your children, for the future. The stakes are high.
