2016 Postmortem

but making Bernie's supporters THE ISSUE seems like a false and counterproductive narrative. There's no doubt PoC are under assault, and something urgently needs to be done, but constant bickering and flame wars over the attitudes (real or perceived) of online Bernie supporters feels like a huge distraction. Our candidate is listening and learning, and many of us are too, but there is way too much emphasis being placed on the internet sideshow. If all Bernie's supporters either said everything they're supposed to say, or not another word until after the primary, it would have no significant impact on the plight of PoC or the demands of BLM. Let's get down to it and figure out a way to engage the current government in this effort.

(1,713 posts)But that would make Hillary look bad. So typical of Bernie supporters to try and twist things to favor their candidate.
I'm still waiting on Bernie's favorite flavor of ice cream. I assume it's some variety of Ben & Jerry's.

(7,820 posts)I know the way some Hillary supporters behave has sometimes left a bad taste in my mouth. It may not make a huge difference in the long run, but it makes it much harder to come together in the end and do the work that needs to be done.

(15,558 posts)but right now, on DU anyway, it's sucking all the air out of the room.

(7,820 posts)But I think Bernie's handling things well, and that's the main thing. I think we'd do well to follow his lead.

The overlap between this group and DU's most conservative posters is considerable.

(30,481 posts)In all fairness, isn't that kind of what supporters of a candidate are suppose to make it about? Their candidate.
"Bernie supporters made this about Bernie."
I don't think Sanders would be getting half the coverage he is if it weren't for this. He needs name recognition and he needs it fast. This is getting him out there. All of these stories often also include his rhetoric from his past. They often take a tone of "how can a guy work for civil rights for this long and take this kind of beating." That in itself will lead to support for him, in my mind. I think outside of du these stories are being coupled with his record(past rhetoric). That is a good thing for him.

... I got 97% agreement w/ Bernie & 90% w/ Hillary.
But the far too frequent in-your-face and "My way of the highway" attitude of a lot of Bernie supporters here has me on the fence.
It's one thing to be enthusiastic, but it's another to be downright rude. And it most assuredly does NOT help Bernie.

(16,380 posts)There are rude supporters on both sides. For every link to to a rude Bernie supporter there is one for a Hillary supporter. So spare us the "far too many" baloney.
