ok...i want to weigh in about #BLM

not so much the movement but more related to tactics and results
let me first disqualify myself by stating i am a political troublemaker
all my political life has been spent comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable
i have been active in protests since the 1960's when i would tag along with my older brother (sleep well mike you are still loved and remembered) to bring an end to the war.
i consider myself a PoC my color is reddish brown although i am white featured and benefit from white privledge (i cant deny it exists i have seen it in action)
and here is a pic of a civil rights hero of mine

there should be something in there that will allow all to ignore what i am about to write

when you want to get people to hear your message you have to get your message out
the object of the act is to get noticed and get people talking
its to move your agenda item higher on the list
you have to make people uncomfortable to make them change
what #BLM did is in a long tradition of protest and warrants support
and quite frankly they are right on a lot of what they say

You will not be able to stay home, brother
You will not be able to plug in, turn on and cop out
You will not be able to lose yourself on skag
And skip out for beer during commercials
Because the revolution will not be televised

The revolution will not be televised
The revolution will not be brought to you by Xerox
In 4 parts without commercial interruptions
The revolution will not show you pictures of Nixon
Blowing a bugle and leading a charge by John Mitchell
General Abrams and Spiro Agnew to eat hog maws
Confiscated from a Harlem sanctuary
The revolution will not be televised

The revolution will not be brought to you by the
Schaefer Award Theater and will not star Natalie Woods
And Steve McQueen or Bullwinkle and Julia
The revolution will not give your mouth sex appeal
The revolution will not get rid of the nubs
The revolution will not make you look five pounds thinner
Because the revolution will not be televised, Brother

There will be no pictures of you and Willie May
Pushing that shopping cart down the block on the dead run
Or trying to slide that color TV into a stolen ambulance
NBC will not be able predict the winner at 8:32
Or report from 29 districts
The revolution will not be televised

There will be no pictures of pigs shooting down
Brothers on the instant replay
There will be no pictures of pigs shooting down
Brothers on the instant replay

There will be no pictures of Whitney Young
Being run out of Harlem on a rail with a brand new process
There will be no slow motion or still life of Roy Wilkens
Strolling through Watts in a red, black and green
Liberation jumpsuit that he had been saving
For just the proper occasion

Green Acres, The Beverly Hillbillies and Hooter ville Junction
Will no longer be so damned relevant
And women will not care if Dick finally gets down with Jane
On search for tomorrow because black people
Will be in the street looking for a brighter day
The revolution will not be televised

There will be no highlights on the eleven o'clock news
And no pictures of hairy armed women liberationists
And Jackie Onassis blowing her nose
The theme song will not be written by Jim Webb
Francis Scott Key, nor sung by Glen Campbell, Tom Jones
Johnny Cash, Englebert Humperdink or the Rare Earth
The revolution will not be televised

The revolution will not be right back after a message
About a white tornado, white lightning, or white people
You will not have to worry about a dove in your bedroom
The tiger in your tank or the giant in your toilet bowl
The revolution will not go better with Coke
The revolution will not fight the germs that may cause bad breath
The revolution will put you in the driver's seat

The revolution will not be televised, will not be televised
Will not be televised, will not be televised
The revolution will be no re-run brothers
The revolution will be live

let me add if the actions had not happened would anyones campaign be exploring how to respond to issues of racism?
i garandamntee you every candidate is front burnering these issues .....NOW
and now is the timeframe we are working in

so to sum up
this sanders supporter is glad and proud that traditional methods of change are still valid
#blm is right in what they are doing and the fact that it is getting the results from the candidates is proof of it

Emergency Politics I call it. The politics of no longer giving a fuck what they think about the methods. It is powerful and one of the reasons I took part was out of the crazy hope that by doing these things others might do such things in the future and thus keep that ball rolling longer than my mortal stamina will allow.

I'm especially very highly annoyed at the folks here that are saying, "Well, if they were to just ask for (I assume politely) and have this polite meeting, people might be more willing to listen." To which I have responded in essence, "Fuck polite meetings!" Apparently there are people who honestly think that would work. I've been saying in so many words causing trouble is how you get attention. Doing things these people would never consider doing. Watts burning got attention. And by any means necessary.

Young Blacks are dying at the hands of white racists with a gun and a badge. To stop that it's going to take more than polite meetings.

i would be willing to bet no ones campaign and i mean no one to include every person running in both parties would have taken their call the day before
and equally willing to bet that the day after they didnt need to call because they were being called.
as i said to someone else
which wheel is it that gets the grease?

the NAACP has had with politicians since its inception in 1909?

This is no way is to diminish the NAACP, which has accomplished many great things. However, sometimes nice, polite and orderly just doesn't cut it. Period.

People of color, feminists, LGBTQ activists, and yes socialists all have to get active and in your face to make the powerful listen. I don't care when or where or who, we must stay vigilant and keep our demands in the minds of those who have the power to make change.
