Subtle change in Romney bus tour stop to circumvent Pa. Democratic protesters a taste of fight to come
By THOMAS FITZGERALD | The Philadelphia Inquirer • Published June 16, 2012

PHILADELPHIA – Mitt Romney's small-town bus tour of swing states rolled across Pennsylvania Saturday, allowing the Republican presidential candidate to campaign as the champion of the middle class in picturesque, everyday American settings.

Romney dodged a group of about 250 Democratic protesters, led by former Gov. Ed Rendell, by diverting from a scheduled stop at a Quakertown Wawa to another Wawa three miles away. The abrupt schedule change gave a taste of the fight ahead in what is likely to be a close presidential campaign, where every move is contested by one side or the other.

"I understand I had a surrogate over there already, so we decided to pick a different place," Romney joked, referring to Rendell, who backs President Barack Obama but has criticized the incumbent and has said that Romney has a chance to win the state.

In an interview aboard his campaign bus, Romney said he plans to run full-tilt in Pennsylvania, which has voted Democratic in the past five presidential elections.

I can just hear him now:

If that Obama tries to stop the Keystone Pipeline for the Keystone State, I'll build it for you myself! I can pay for jobs for Pennsylvania if you vote for me!

the Romney camp where the protest was going to happen. I've never known another pol who is more fanatically devoted to the status quo, and I've been following him since he was a DA in Philadelphia.

I'll never forget Rendell opining that Gore should throw in the towel in Bush v Gore.

And "leading" the protest? There had to be something in it for him... I hope the rest of the story comes out.
