Iowa – Anyone who tells you there’s no difference between Democrats and Republicans wasn’t in Iowa this weekend. It’s hard to remember a 24-hour period that featured a more telling public display of two parties going two directions.

THE DEMOCRATS

Democrats are leaning into the future, bringing new ideas and laying out the next big, bold progressive agenda. Republicans are being left behind, clinging to a belief in a past that increasingly no longer exists.

Friday night all the Democratic candidates for President gathered at the 2015 Iowa Democratic Party Hall of Fame Dinner at the Cedar Rapids Convention Center. As always, the backdrop matters. The very building, two blocks from the Cedar River, exists because federal and state leaders thought investing in the rebuilding of the city after the 2008 floods made sense.

And the Democrats running for President brought their rhetorical “A” game. They joined great new ideas with passionate defenses of the party’s progressive values.
