Independents: Both Economic Plans Suck

If either Mitt Romney or Barack Obama want to win over independent voters this fall, they better step up their economic plans. According to a new Washington Post/ABC News survey, 54 percent of independents think Obama’s economic plan sucks, while 47 percent say Romney’s plan sucks, too. Satisfaction with 38 percent and 35 percent with Obama’s and Romney’s policies, respectively, isn’t going to get them anywhere with this crowd. Even though Obama’s got the black and Latino votes locked up with regard to the economy, support for Romney’s plan, race-wise, is pretty split. About 42 percent of white voters like Romney’s plan and 42 percent don’t. Of black voters, 68 percent hate it, as do 48 percent of Latino voters.

I think this is a net + for Obama. The economy is a wash but Obama leads on other things such as foreign policy and likability.

"independent" doesn't result in any higher level of understanding, let alone engagement in reality, than any of the other labels out there. My experience is that it's any EASY out for people who don't know and don't care except SOCIALLY.

They're the kind of people whom get air time saying that "both sides" are worthless and that they just need to be able to work together for the public good oblivious to the fact that one whole side is obstructing everything the other side is *trying* to do.

And what kind of economic policies does these voters want to see, anyway?

5. They should be able to construct a highly detailed analysis of ANY/all partisan positions in order

to illustrate the so-called "independence" of their own positions. I'd bet there are almost 0 who can actually do that. They are cop-outs, who go into the voting booth and do what almost everyone else does, vote by reflex.

sorry, independents, AKA unaffiliated....when you let the rest of us choose the candidate during the primaries, you're not independent, at all. Wishy washy uninformed - and drop the attitude.

6. Why anyone takes independent voters seriously is beyond me...

I have zero respect for anyone who calls their self independent. I've yet to actually meet a real independent I like. They're either Republicans masquerading around as independents or vapid, politically ignorant voters who can go vote Bill Clinton twice and then turn around and vote George W. Bush twice. These are the voters who say they're not anti-choice, but have no problem voting for candidates who push an extreme anti-choice views. They'll talk about how they want healthcare and then cringe at spending. They'll talk about how they pride themselves on the middle class, then turn and vote for a guy who wants to take a wrecking ball to it.

But I agree with you. Obama wins this fight by default.
