2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSo What IS The Republic Party's Vision Of America?
OK, we know they have been de-funding all state jobs like police, firefighters, and teachers. They are also working hard at disparaging the Postal workers to try and get rid of the US mail. So what would their dream world look like?
No cops: does that mean they all will get the chance to use their guns like George Zimmerman and build a vigilante force and walk around like it's some lawless Hollywood depiction of a no-sheriff town, where people can just pull guns on each other and have 10 paces and turn and fire scenarios?
Now when the loser gets shot there won't be any ambulances to come and get them because the firefighters have been doing double duty as paramedics. So basically the person who is shot has to be taken to some doctor or die in a waiting room since the hospitals will all either be for profits and with no publicly funded ERs-they won't be anywhere to take them anyway under GOP-rule.
You have to figure the crime rate will soar with no more public schools too. In my neighborhood here there are so many break-ins and a lot of them are being done by teenagers. So no schools and no cops will mean a lot of crime. Bad news for the GOPers though, those who will actually HAVE something worth stealing, THEY'RE going to be the looters and break-in crews main targets.
What else do you guys see happening in their RW dream world?

(7,767 posts)about how down here in south Florida in some of the gated communities they even have their own shopping centers with grocery stores, restaurants and gas stations. That's all well and fine but eventually they will have to leave the gated community and venture out into the real world when there are zombies who will car jack you and eat your face. Anybody who is NOT a millionaire and votes for ANY republic party person is an absolute idiot who will be voting against their own best interests-of course that all won't matter to them, as long as they get rid of the black Kenyan occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue-nothing else matters to them only their blind hatred for the man.

(4,462 posts)My husband, a lifelong Dem., is an urban planner. It is desirable to plan communities that are pedetrian friendly, and designed around a town center with shopping and recreation. However, the Planning Assoc, doesn't envision gates, and they want the housing options to be mixed income and affordable. Their reasoning is it has environmental, health and social advantages. Less use of your car, more walking and exercise, and more socializing amongst fellow residents. Unfortunately, they haven't convinced developers to do such except for wealthy residents.

(115,869 posts)The 1% will live in gated communities, just like medieval nobility lived in their manor houses and castles. The rest of us peed-on peons will exist at their sufferance. We will clean their castles, work their farms, man their armies; in return they will pay us just enough to survive.
Until the revolution.

(67,112 posts)militarization of the local police. None of us are invited to the big party in the manor houses and castles. The 1% know soon they will have to enable more and more physical armed force against the masses to keep them suppressed and under control. And the FEMA camps I think more and more are a reality than a conspiracy theory.

The ultra rich already have a completely separate infrastructure of helicopters, private air fields, VIP wings in hospitals, and shopping that comes to them. Most people don't know this stuff exists and that's just fine with them. They wish to be invisible except to each other.
As things worsen, they will withdraw completely from the country around them, leaving everybody else to being caught in the middle between the few police and crime gangs. The police, of course, will be making sure none of us ever approaches the hidden infrastructure.
This is what they want. This is what they're working toward.

(16,987 posts)Lowest possible taxes for the rich, fewer regulations, less of a safety net (The promotion of private charity over a formal safety net has been a GOP staple for years).
They also have a disturbing obsession with military spending in that it seems more knee-jerk response than actual smart, targeted, strategic spending. In short, Eisenhower's warning about the military industrial complex appears to have fallen on deaf ears.
