2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSo what are we DOING about it?
I've just recently came back to DU, so this may have already been posted, but if so, a reminder won't hurt.
We've all been bitching about the Citizen's United ruling by the SCOTUS, and rightfully so. However, I just learned that stations are under absolutely NO obligation to run the ads produced by the "third party" interests. From the official campaigns, yes. But not the slimy, crazy people. As I understand it, the real issue here is the stations can charge much more to the 3rd party folks than they can the national organizations, so running these ads increases the almighty bottom line. Back in March, CBS President Les Moonves was quoted as saying, "Super PACs may be bad for America, but they're very good for CBS."
Anyhow, the Annenberg Public Policy Center has a website that allows you to send a email to your local stations asking them to NOT run mis-leading ads. Just go to: http://www.flackcheck.org go to the "Stand by Your Ad" page and take it from there. It won't take you more than 2 minutes. Ready, set, GO!!

(4,982 posts)I run into a brick wall here whenever I suggest anyone DO anything to fight what is happening to this country (instead of just griping on DU) - so I appreciate another "DO"-type person.
