Hillary Clinton to Give First National Interview, Launching Phase-2 of Campaign, Today CNN 5/8 PM ET

Politico, "HILLARY CLINTON TO GIVE FIRST NATIONAL INTERVIEW, LAUNCHING PHASE-TWO OF CAMPAIGN"
By Dylan Byers, July 6, 2015

Three months after kicking off a presidential bid that has been nagged by concerns about media access and transparency, Hillary Clinton is finally sitting down for the first nationally televised interview of her campaign. Tuesday (today) Clinton will talk to CNN senior political correspondent Brianna Keilar in what is to be the opening round in a series of interviews with the national media. The full interview will air on CNN at 5 PM ET, and again at 8 PM ET.

Presidential interviews usually aren't game-changing events- almost every other 2016 candidate does them regularly- and the CNN sit-down, in Iowa City, isn't likely to be a landmark moment in the campaign. Make no mistake, Clinton is not ushering in a new era of access and transparency.

However: The decision to sit down with national media does reflect a shift of gears for the campaign to date. Clinton has had a few impromptu press gaggles, but by and large has been dismissing or ignoring the inquiries shouted at her as she meets with voters. She may "ponder" the idea of responding to your question, or she might "just sit down and have some pie". If the press scrum gets in the way of her campaigning, the campaign will corral them, like so many sheep.

More importantly, Clinton is entering a phase in the campaign where she will be forced to address (or more artfully deflect) uncomfortable questions head on. These will include her record at the State Department, her use of a private email account there, and the ties between Clinton Foundation donations and her decisions as secretary to name a few. She may also be forced to comment on what she makes of Bernie Sanders' relative rise in the polls, and what it says about enthusiasm (or lack thereof) over her campaign.

provide chances for Hillary to explain her views, her campaign platform and plans and to answer the interviewers questions. This media session will also open up better live engagements on the long campaign trail with the press and voters whose comments and questions she will be able to reply to. The recent event control atmosphere needs to improve, and surely will after this first step. *Great photo of her here btw. Hillary has always been a very photogenic, attractive person.

I like her slow and steady campaign. We're still a long way out.

Which was the Scooby van?

How many restarts, kick-offs and "phases" will it take for the people to just realize that it is her damn turn.

A slow and steady progression of campaigning. Seems pretty normal.
