I frankly don't get this. IMO she'd do much better as an unscripted than as a scripted candidate.

The heavy-handed treatment of journalists Saturday is likely to only exacerbate the Clinton campaign's long-running tensions with the press.
Clinton, the Democratic frontrunner, avoided interviews during her first two months as a candidate. Campaign events are carefully stage managed, with reporters getting few opportunities to question the candidate. And she has yet to do a lengthy national media interview.
Journalists privately met last month to discuss grievances over access on the campaign trail -- from not receiving timely logistical information to being kept too far from the candidate at public events or kept completely out of fundraisers. Representatives from the Clinton press corps brought their concerns to top communications officials the following week.
But just days after the attempted détente. , the Clinton campaign denied access to the press corps' designated pool reporter at an event. In a joint statement, fourteen news organizations condemned the campaign's decision as "unacceptable."
The press wrangling at the July 4 parade Saturday only brought more scrutiny on the campaign's handling of the media.
"Never underestimate @HillaryClinton 's capacity to fritter away commanding natural advantages with poor judgment," tweeted Politico's Glenn Thrush.

(23,946 posts)What is a reporter or journalist these days, is there a clear definition?
The sheer hypocrisy of folks complaining about the media in general and then crying about how Clinton treats the media in general is just awesome.

(13,685 posts)As for the media, seems Hillary and the media are in a downward spiral together. Like someone pulled the tub drain plug and they are circling the drain....

(40,656 posts)everyone gets a bee up their butt that it doesn't matter. Of course it does. She is making a mistake here. Imperious v open. She has to take her lumps by being more open because it is going to cost her to continue down this road. Given that Sanders has used the blogisphere to get where he is in a positive manner, consider how it can take her down by doing this. She doesn't have the luxury to mess around like this. She is setting the story herself and it isn't a good one.

(7,830 posts)If she became president, and she shields herself from the media in a very controlled manner, this is what Hill apologists would be saying, I can see it now.
Hypocrites! Forgetting Hill's words on transparency in government, and thus forgetting who the true hypocrite is.
The cure for corruption is openness,

Good thing she's so open, otherwise people might think she's corrupt!

(16,685 posts)Ditch the over managing consultants and let 'er rip. The media landscape has changed dramatically since the days she was roasted for her "guess I could have stayed home and baked cookies" comments and yet she seems petrified of making a misstep. People are craving authenticity and she seems unwilling or unable to give it to them. Tell us what you BELIEVE and what your VALUES are and stand by them and take your lumps if necessary.

(14,308 posts)This was a parade.
Hillary doesn't get to say where people stand in a parade. They should have taken the rope and tied up the Hillary workers with it and then gone where they wanted.

It's not like they're in their 40s and trying to make it, they've already done it. In person she is extremely pleasant, charming and animated, not structured, at least in the early-mid 2000s when I briefly met and chatted with her at small/medium size events.

(17,180 posts)The Clintons have been burned plenty over the last 25 years by the M$M.
TeamHillary is determined to completely control the message, and "unscripted" isn't really her strong suit.
The reporters are determined to get their own byline by breaking ye-gods-yet-another so-called "scandal".
It doesn't reflect well on either of them, and I'd hope they could reach some level of understanding.
But either way, should she be elected, I wouldn't count on seeing a lot of press conferences from the new administration.

(51,907 posts)--get a message out. I prefer the Sanders tactic of talking to anyone who wants to ask him about anything without being pre-screened. Clinton only does staged and vetted contacts with voters. This bewilders me, as I see no reason why she couldn't handle unscripted events

(23,946 posts)air behind her to see if they can pretend to have created a scandal?
You can get famous breaking any kind of news, news or not, with the Clinton Family legacy in the crosshairs...not so much Sanders.
Is it not fucking obvious why the paparazzi, calling themselves "reporters" have to be roped off?
Stop buying into the corporate media propaganda because it suits you for another reason!

(23,946 posts)Taking down a Clinton is a the prime director of these " journalists"... Plain as day that is true.
Sanders is being used as a foil, that is not obvious, that at is my opinion.
