HANOVER, N.H. (AP) Hillary Rodham Clinton is warning New Hampshire voters that if the country elects a Republican president, the next administration will repeal President Barack Obamas health care overhaul.
The Democratic presidential front-runner says she will offer continuity on the policies under Obama that have worked for the vast majority of Americans. And she says the federal budget was in order under her husbands administration until it was rudely interrupted by Republicans.
Clinton tells 850 people at a park at Dartmouth College she hopes the U.S. will get a deal that puts a lid on Irans nuclear program. But she says Iran will still cause major problems as a sponsor of terrorism.
The event was moved outdoors and comes as rival Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has drawn big crowds around the country.

(92,304 posts)realize is that Congress can play games with the purse strings, in addition to whittling down the ACA so it becomes ineffective without actually repealing it.
If Hillary came out and said if a republican wins the white house, they will appoint justices like Scalia, Thomas, or Alito. Would anyone have an issue with that, or because Hillary said it, reflexively say it isn't so?

What exactly is it that would make me want to vote for Hillary. Being a woman is the only one I can come up with and the reason for that is I so want to see a woman win the Presidency in my lifetime. I'll be damned if that in itself is enough for me to vote for someone though
Don't get me wrong I'll vote for our Nominee in the general no matter who it is. I'm a true blue democratic party member 100%

(36,926 posts)It is a real threat, and just one piece of all the damage that a Republican president could do, especially if s/he has a Republican controlled Congress.

(15,480 posts)The event was originally scheduled to be held at a private Rope Ferry Road home listed on real estate websites for $3.8 million, with members of the public invited to attend by signing up ahead of time. Campaign spokesman Harrell Kirstein said the planned location was switched to the Bema on Thursday afternoon because of large local interest. Both the OP link and mine refer to an estimated 850 in attendance - I'd like to know the origin of that estimate.
Many people interviewed said that they had planned to attend the Rope Ferry Road event, but others said they came upon the Bema event by chance as the buzz spread downtown Friday. Hanover resident Joanna M. Long, 83, was among that group, saying she found out about the event at CVS when she was wondering what all the traffic was about.
Clinton spoke for about a half-hour at the sun-soaked amphitheater, which saw long lines for patriotic cookout fare like hamburgers, apple pie and lemonade before the former first lady and secretary of state took the stage about 2:30 p.m.
Plainfields Thom Wolke, 56, attended wearing a homemade shirt bearing Sanders name and the phrase dont waste your vote. He said he found parts of Clintons remarks to be disingenuous, including her vows to fight Citizens United.
Wolke said he found it to be distasteful when Clinton brought up Freddie Gray, the black Baltimore man who died after being taken into police custody in April, calling it a tragic, terrible incident that is obviously now in the court system. Wolke said he was bothered that Clinton then talked about reports that Gray experienced lead poisoning as a toddler.

(36,063 posts)I have no problem with HRC being a champion for the ACA...
But, fear strongly motivates -conservative- behavior, and I'm not at all into Dems persisting in conservative behavior. In my mind 'champions' are models of courage.
Oversimplifications of political opponents in this way pushes the 'us' vs 'them' nature of the general election as a contest against an evil stereotype. It diverts attention from what is going on now...the primary challenges.
I hope Sec Clinton's team will reshape this into something rather more positive and demonstrative of courageous leadership...perhaps she and her team can find a cause in championing the reshaping of federal support so that ACA is affordable to people in states where anti-social conserv-atarian legislatures rejected medicaid expansion.

(52,165 posts)every single, solitary, GOP candidate as explicitly stated, over and over again, that they would repeal ACA the very first chance they got. I don't know how much clearer they possibly could be.

Wow, what a surprise to learn that.

(13,069 posts)She has been dehumanized to the point where she is evil in the eyes of many on this board. Everything she says, no matter how accurate or benign is twisted and attacked.
ACA: The only reason they have not is due to fact that they do not YET have total power. What she says is not a "fear tactic"--it is the truth.

Free healthcare doesn't subsidize itself.
Hey don't worry folks, Chris Christie is going to replace it with something better once he is elected. Yup
that's what he said. Our government program is going to be better than their government program.

(1,819 posts)If you want to make people concerned about what the Republicans would do with the Whitehouse, House, and Senate. Tell the voters what will happen when the GOP has the chance to add more people like, Alito, Roberts, Thomas, and Scalia to the Supreme Court. The thought terrifies me, so after the primaries, I will whole heartily support whoever the nominee turns out to be.
Repealing Obamacare, I believe will be harder than is thought.
For all you Clinton folks, I am in no way denigrating your candidate so please don't act as if I am.

(9,527 posts)how will he actually get past just calling for it and instead enacting it. What's the path to do that given the general electorate and the make up of the House and Senate?

It good to realize their attendance at the polling station is incredibly important. I wonder if she might be concerned that her polling numbers against the Reps looks solid enough that some won't feel it's necessary to show up?

(6,409 posts)With a Republican president, the GOP would pass a bill directly repealing Obamacare, and throwing health insurance into total chaos. Consumers would have to make the old "non-choices" between bad plans and worse plans. Except for wealthy people, of course, who would regain those "Cadillac" plans they used to have in the good old days.
