2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI like Hillary, but I didn't like Claire McCaskill's comments at all.
In fact, they were borderline offensive. And also completely pointless. Hillary's going to win the primary, there's no point at all in attacking Bernie, comparing him to Pat Buchanan, and in so doing further alienating his supporters and ultimately making them less likely to enthusiastically support Hillary in the GE.
Bernie's message is a good one, and it's one that should be heard and celebrated. He's drawing huge crowds because he has important things to say. Can he win a national election? No. But that's not a reason to bash him.

I don't think Hillary is a shoo in, nor can she necessarily win election with nasty BS like this.

Hmmm... Oh well, maybe it will come to me in a little while, I know I've heard that word used in a derogatory manner before by someone, maybe it was on the radio while I was driving.

(5,811 posts)a wingnut rightie. Geez! Let's be real. Both Hillary and Bernie are very smart people and very accomplished. Dissing Hillary or Bernie with GOP dogwhistles really defeats the purpose of keeping the WH and taking back Congress in 2016.

(20,709 posts)Just say that Bernie is great and has an important message but Hillary has the experience and leadership credentials and proven record of standing up for working Americans and so on.

(14,587 posts)$2.5 billion?
That's an awful lot of money. It stretches credulity that one candidate should have much, and honestly it makes me want to vomit that these people (all of them and their super PACS) are spending SO much money that could be used instead to help people instead of just get them power.
Too much money.

(14,587 posts)I guess we'll see if any of it sticks. You know, for years we've been told negative campaigns work, yet Bernie has said he won't be negative - he will just tell the truth. But will he have surrogates? Will they get tough? It will be very interesting to see how this plays out.
I grew up in the 60s, and at that time, we all naively believed the good guys always won in the end because truth would prevail. Bernie does not seem to love power; he did not seem to want to run, and yet is perhaps doing so from a sense of responsibility. I wonder if it will work for him (and for us)?
I hope it does.

(62,325 posts)daily, latest poll from Iowa eg, shows her down six points, Bernie up six points.
McCaskill herself is offensive, she is all that is wrong with the Dem Party.
As far as Bernie supporters supporting Hillary IF she should win, many are signing up as Dems JUST to vote for Bernie, they will definitely NOT vote for Hillary and the Dem Party should not count on that. They are people who left the Dem party, Independents who do not like what is going on with with Dem party and many who were previously non-voters, I've signed up a few of them, and they will not vote for Hillary as she represents the status quo, which is why they became non voters.
McCaskill betrayed the American people this week. She should be ashamed to show her face let alone attack someone who stood up for them and always has.
