Ten Democrats made up the deficit needed to pass this bill.
UPDATE: Debbie Wasserman Schultz, DNC chair, was one of the Democrats voting FOR.
UPDATE: With the MSM fully occupied with Dylann Roof, it is likely that Mitch McConnell will arrange for a vote VERY fast, probably today.

(60,010 posts)the next test comes in the Senate, where it will need the support of a dozen or so pro-trade Democrats.
They'll have to act without knowing for certain whether a second piece of legislation that will provide aid to workers who lose jobs in overseas deals, also voted down last week, will make it to the president's desk. That measure must now face a Senate vote first, before being sent back to the House

(22,000 posts)I'm shocked that so many are from Oregon. Goddamn nearly all of them from both the House and Senate in Oregon have voted for it except Congressman DeFazio and Senator Merkley. Those guys have steel balls.

(34,661 posts)not going to happen. This TAA thing is just a piece of cover for certain Dems who might be primaried in 2016. When I first seen this POS hit, called a person who worked on the Hill, and she said,it was a done deal and watch for the Lipstick. TAA is just Lipstick. It is all about money in campaign coffers, which by the way can be kept by the Senator or Congressperson if and when they bail for office.
cascadiance
(19,537 posts)like it didn't when they earlier filibustered it. We should make sure that they don't get pushed in to voting for this crap on some empty and manipulative promises. It should be clear that they should filibuster it this time and stick to their guns, even if Republicans try to link it to other legislation. It should be voted down no matter and those who bend should be threatened with primaries in 2016. Three senators (Wyden, Bennett, and Murray) are up for reelection in 2016.

(19,537 posts)That someone even feeling this bill was needed at all is a reminder that there was some general consensus that middle class jobs were going to be lost or at least adversely affected by free trade bills enabled by TPA.
And with or without TAA, this bill is a bad idea, but especially without. And if they want to appear to be consistent in their votes and not manipulated by money this week, they should stick with the same filibuster vote that they had the first time. And people should tell Carper that he will be forced to take a hike for not even filibustering it the first time.
NorthCarolina
(11,197 posts)for TPP to fail. It's a bought deal.
cascadiance
(19,537 posts)Even though Republicans are wanting senators to be appointed like they used to be now too.
That will be on the ticket next if TPA passes.
We need to make sure that everyone is clear that those who vote for TPA are voting against democracy, and should be voted out of office as soon as possible.

(19,537 posts)This is inexcusable. I think there is a way for grass roots campaigns in all of the different state Democratic organizations to do this if I remember times in the past. Though perhaps that's only just approval when a new one gets put in place. Would be good to find out if enough state organizations have votes to have her replaced if we can force her out of this position.
NorthCarolina
(11,197 posts)I'm pretty sure she's safe in her spot as long as he's in office. Especially now.
cascadiance
(19,537 posts)I think if you start a grass roots upward movement within PCP groups, they can put pressure on these higher ltevel chairs and vice chairs to vote her out of office or be subject to be replaced themselves.
Now is the time for everyone to start going to PCP meetings and taking over the party from the ground up. This process may take a while, but if we start now, perhaps we can have strength to force these kind of changes later when it is important for the 2016 election.
Yes, there is internal politics in many of these organizations. I've heard and witnessed some stories myself. But the bottom line is that we need to get power of numbers of those to use democratic rule to work for us. And I do believe there are already many PCPs in many places that really want what we want too. It's a matter of empowering them to help change happen.
I recall that this kind of effort helped get Howard Dean voted in as DNC chair earlier that helped him later push his 50 state strategy that helped us subsequently in taking back the House.
Sunlei
(22,651 posts)of the most loyal and hardworking people the party has? Who do you suggest they are replaced with?
cascadiance
(19,537 posts)Howard Dean would probably be better back where he was then when he helped the Democrats take back the House with a far better strategy than corporate hack DWS.
Obama started to show his hands when he named Rahmbo Emanuel to head his cabinet along with DWS to replace Dean.
I don't consider DWS as one of the "most loyal and hardworking people the party has" when she's voting AGAINST that party's constituency's future with this crappy TPA bill, along with a lot of other crappy things she's done.
And this kind of movement to vote her out by affecting who is in party chair positions can start from the ground up like it did to get Dean in to that position earlier.
Sunlei
(22,651 posts)Dean told Chris Matthews on MSNBCs "Hardball" that "I didn't do this for the spoils. I did this for the country. I'm very happy that Barack Obama is president, and I think he's picked a great Cabinet. And I'm pretty happy. I wouldn't trade my position for any other position right now. I'm going to go into the private sector, make a living making speeches, and do a lot of stuff on health care policy."
