John Kasich: the 2016 GOP clown car's designated driver?

Last edited Sat Mar 12, 2016, 03:41 PM - Edit history (3)

With Trump and Jeb seated and Christie on the running board (a metaphor, not a weight joke), the 2016 model of the GOP Clown Car is now officially occupied.

Ohio governor John Kasich is the only one who doesn't make me laugh -- but only because I don't know him. He's not as well known as the others, of course. But like Obama at best or Bush Jr. at worst, does Jon Kasich have the policies and personality that can bring him from behind and make him a formidable candidate simply because he's not known as a clown?

GOP voters (as well as moderate and undecided swing voters) may decide to back Kasich precisely because he appears to be the LEAST clownish -- that's what I'm worried about.

The GOP supporters will double down on their stupidity. They'll nominate Walker, Rubio, or Bush.

to accept an appointment from Obama, then he's just as much of a clown as the rest of them.

P.S. The origin of this video was traced back to the Huntsman campaign.

But I'm less worried about him because like Chris Christie, he's semi-indicted and as personable as a cactus.

Crossposted from the Ohio group:

...Kasich is thinking that he can "left flank" the clown car and come off as a centrist -- he is going to act like a republican third wayer -- but really he is a corporate Reagan type. Because of this he is...the most dangerous one, I think, since Christie has the bridge. With the branding in Ohio and his..."centrist bonifides," he is the republican with the best chance to win the presidency if he can distinguish himself in the clown car, get name recognition, and not get tea-partied in the primary.

That's EXACTLY what I feared someone would say. And as a Jersey girl, I can vouch for Chris Christie's tying on McCain's "moderate maverick" shoes before he got caught caught in a perfect storm between Sandy and Bridgegate. But we'd be wrong to underestimate anyone at this point, even Donald Trump -- like I said, who would have bet on Obama or Bush II at this point in the campaign?
