Donna Edwards could be the next Elizabeth Warren

I should probably put this in the Maryland group forum, but I'm so excited about this woman! Congresswoman Donna Edwards is running to fill the retiring Barbara Mikulski's Senate seat in Maryland. She's a black woman, a single mom, and as progressive as you can get.

In Congress, she’s won more money for science and math programs in Maryland’s schools, more money for historically black colleges and universities, drawn a firm line against Tea Party attacks on reproductive rights, and stood up to compromises on safety nets. She’s talked about the need for a women-centered economic agenda that includes a higher minimum wage, paid sick leave, pay equity, pre-kindergarten and affordable childcare, saying “When women succeed, America succeeds.”

At the end of March, we heard that 6000 people had signed up to support her. I am waiting with baited breath for her to run with her army and make a buzz in Maryland. But she's up against an establishment Democrat who raised $1.2 million last quarter.

Well, if anything, things will be interesting in Maryland.

and due to her REAL genuine progressive record, we here, at DU, should be a STRONG source of support for her.

THAT MEANS, DUers should be encouraged to send $, as she's contending with chris van hollen's very well-financed run.

as one who worked on her 2008 Democratic primary campaign in Maryland - against incumbent DINO Albert Wynn.

As a progressive member of Van Hollen's district in Maryland (until 2010), I can say he was a disappointment for his progressive constituents despite the fact that we celebrated his victory over incumbent Republican Connie Morella in 2004, and despite the fact that many of us worked on his campaign for that victory.

think. I think at that time, people were just sick of Connie.

And I also think Donna as more than established herself as a stalwart for the progressive movement. In some ways, she may even be to the left of Elizabeth Warren! (just sayin')

I've decided to start up a boots-on-the-ground grassroots effort to find more Donna Edwards supporters. My time and resources are limited, but my enthusiasm is boundless. Anybody with grassroots experience have ideas on how I can find more supporters outside of social media?

She's a progressive black woman and a single mom. I've been thinking of going to hair salons! Not sure where else to find people who would make strong supporters.
