A St. Norbert College-Wisconsin Public Radio poll released Wednesday gives Governor Scott Walker an edge over challenger Tom Barrett in next week's recall election.
Walker leads Barrett 50 to 45 percent in the poll, echoing the results of the last Marquette Law School poll.
This survey was collected by a random selection of 406 Wisconsin adults via telephone surveys, both land line and cell phone, between May 17 and May 22.
The survey has a margin of error of 5%, which still leaves this race a statistical tie.
"Five percent of the people who are likely to vote are still not sure, and at five percent difference, they could really make the difference here if they actually show up," St. Norbert College political science professor Wendy Scattergood said.
According to the survey, 52% said they voted for Scott Walker in the 2010 gubernatorial election and 38% said they voted for Tom Barrett. Two percent said they couldn't remember who they voted for.
The recall election was spurred by Governor Walker's budget bills that eliminated most collective bargaining for public workers' unions except police and fire unions.
When asked if they thought "public employees should or should not have the right to collectively bargain for wages," 59% thought they should, and 35% said they should not.
(I do recall that St. Norbert's final poll in 2010 had Walker up by 9-points (50-41) and that in the end Barrett lost by only 52-47--so undecideds moved in heavier numbers towards him. Hopefully we can get out our vote).

(94,762 posts)Every poll, regardless of sponsor and regardless of company is skewed? INcluding the Daily Kos poll which had the race barely within the margin of error and Walker almost at 50%?

(33,497 posts)just a little example. Last night I watched 'Modern Family' on ABC for an hour. There were during that hour SIX PRO-WALKER ads and NOT ONE PRO-BARRETT ad.
